i get vaguely annoyed when people blame students for their failings. while i realise that they are the ones failing, i'm talking about younger children in middle school and below. we didn't just suddenly decide to pick up these habits, we learned them from the adults around us. it isn't like any child is choosing to not do well, and i feel like there's a negative stigma where people accuse students of 'not trying hard enough', when sometimes it isn't even their fault. i personally think the system should take a lot of the blame in this situation, not the victims thereof.

This is despicable in the highest degree. Not the first time I've heard of this as I strangely recall bringing up a similiar story last year or so.
Part of this might be the No Child Left Behind Act. It's making things worse instead of better by putting pressure on schools to go to these lengths.
However, it's also the fault of these "corrupt" schools for doing these practices. People like this don't deserve to teach our children at all. I think the Principles need to go work at Walmart cause you know "Walmart is hiring" and "the door swings both ways".
Put those bastards in their place. There's nothing more I would love to do than fire those Principles and use their own words against them. That would bring me so much pleasure.

Well, what do you expect from a country which values defense over education?

Our Health Care has more than our Defense? Sorry, but I call BS.
Basically all the money we've had since.. ever, has gone to fighting los stupid war and wasting it on the interests of the rich.

you'd be surprised.. americans spend more than any other country in the world, and their age expectancy has been going down. It's still no different, it's largely inefficient and still works on the interests of the rich. They gladly stop insuring people on a whim and a broken leg can bankrupt someone.

Actually, the US gov does not spend the most in the world (per capita), but they are close. IIRC they are 2nd or maybe 3rd place. You and your silly conspiracy theory blogs. >.> But ya, the bottom line that I find quite interesting is that despite being one of the top gov spenders on healthcare, the system overall is patient (not tax money) funded?! wtf? I wonder what the total costs going into healthcare would add up to if you counted the gov + private spending.
Kinda off topic, but whatever. xd

I also think that the media has some role in how poorly Americans do in school.
There are a lot of cartoons and other shows that portray schools in a negative light. (You know what I'm talking about.)
These are also directed towards children. So, being easily influenced, these children may also take on the view that learning is a terrible experience.
Even if children are easily influenced I think they know the difference between nonsensical fun and the real deal...
