...
get a junk desktop (for free or $50 at a black market)
make sure it works
then turn off
open it up
disassemble it
reassemble it
test to see if it works
if it doesn't, recheck everything
Desktops have not changed in design for years in terms of building one.
and have your cousin supervise you.

;o, are you getting the same case that I have (Antec 900) ;D? Freaking heavy, but 4 fans total keeps it pretty cool ;D.
When it comes to placing the HDD (depending on motherboard position/RAM slot position), make sure it isn't near where the RAM needs to go. Otherwise the power cable for the HDD can push against the RAM (that is if the cable isn't flexible enough)
Any of the shelves of the bottom cage are good, though I put mine on the 2nd shelf of the top cage, I was thinking it would get better air circulation...not sure if it is or not though LOL
You can easily change the positions of the cages, you need to take out the screws on both sides of the case (both sides come off the same way) and just push them outwards. I changed the position of the 2 front fans to 1 at the top and 1 right at the bottom, hopefully nicer air flow throughout the case. Lots of space for drives ^_^

Yeah, I think i might get a non-pretty but gets the job done case. Like, I want the case to be as easy as possible to put things in.
