..Wow, just wow.
I'm not going to post a long rant on how idiotic and closed minded this terrible post is, I'll keep it short.
Marvel has gay super heroes and they're not "whimpy" just like all homosexuals in real life are not whimps.
Wow, and your biased.
Can this post get any worse?
Yes, well, it's the stereotype. The reason why is because gay men are seen as having more feminine tenancies and characteristics, and as we all know... a man not being manly, is very frowned on in our very "masculine" society.
A girl on the other hand, could be a superhero and gay and nothing would change because she is already feminine, so no extra connotations are attached.
The problem is, Spiderman's alter ego isn't a manly "badass" type character. He's a total loser. That's how he's always been.
So now they're making a black/latino loser who also happens to be gay. Obviously if he's a "loser," he's probably not "manly," so it only further escalates the masculinity issue within our society.
And as we all know, things in comics are always to their extremes. If they're a wuss, they're going to be extremely wussy. If they're macho, they're going to be extremely macho. If they're a womanizer, they're going to be extremely womanizing. If they're gay, they're going to be extremely gay. It's just how we do these things.
I'm surprised you didn't say anything offensive due to the fact that he's a half-black latino.
What I'm upset about is not that he's gay or that he's a black/latino mix. What I am upset about is one of the first black and/or multiracial characters as a popular mainstream superhero is going to be the one that everyone knows as a complete wuss. Why does it have to be Spiderman? I've always hated Spiderman's alter ego for his wussiness, and the fact that they would also introduce one of the first gays, not only at the same time, but also as a wuss? That's just... I don't even.
It upsets me, okay.
If it was a big black/latino gay Wolverine, then I wouldn't care. But it's just way too stereotypical to portray a gay as a wuss.
If they're going to introduce gays into comics as heroes, they should at least make them badass. Like if Venom were gay, or some other really "badass" villain or hero. Then kids would see that being gay doesn't make you lame or a wuss and you can still be badass and cool even if you are gay.
That's what I'm upset about.
I'm also upset that they're trying way too hard for this "equality" thing that it's extremely obvious. Black/Latino mix and gay all in one go? Pft. What, he isn't part Asian too? It's just stupid. They should at least do it right if they're going to do it.
I'm not saying they shouldn't, but for one of the first blacks or latinos to be such a total wuss... ughhh... that just urks me, and it just makes it worse that they make him gay too (and a wuss).
People whine about inequality because despite the fact that we're so "diverse", the comic book industry is still largely dominated by white males, both behind the scenes and as protagonists/characters in general. There was a drop in the amount of female writers for comic books recently, and that number was already depressing with how low it was.
I guess fans are still so closed-minded that they can't handle change that corresponds to their own, contemporary times?
Killing off a hero to re-new the series isn't a new concept. It's very clear that this kid ins't Peter Parker. It's not like they're taking Peter Parker, randomly changing his ethnicity to Black+Latino, then possibly changing his sexuality. This is a different person that isn't going to change how the original functioned.
How much of his background do you know that you know he's a whimp? Besides, they said the gay thing was only a possibility.
So you're fine with homosexuality as long as they're female? This black+Latino guy isn't the original Spiderman. He's a new one, so shouldn't that be fine too, if he ends up being gay? Why does he have to be the same kind of outcast as Peter? Maybe this is what isolates him from others.
No, I'm fine with homosexuality as long as they're not one of the already existing superheroes that have been established as straight and already have their own stories. I have a problem with re-inventing superheros with a new name to begin with. If they die they should either stay dead or be resurrected for the billionth time by some random fluke coincidence. Someone else shouldn't pick up their suit and go masquerading as the original... that's just ****ed up and ruins it for fans of the original.
And... see above.
