Rapist Beaten and set on fire by angry mob of women

  Burning and drowning is barbaric. We shouldn't have to regress into such tribal actions.
  
  Not to mention, death by either of the two methods are extremely painful. More painful than a hammer to the head and rape. If I were to be lit on fire or forced to drown, I'd gladly ask for hammer and rape instead. Heck, given the choice I would take a quick death over burning and drowning.

  His "few short moments" I believe is far greater agony than whatever the victim will suffer for the rest of her life. Don't underestimate physical pain. Especially one caused by an angry mob.
  
  Some people just aren't as strong and take psychological trauma, and while no one will just "get over it", most people are strong enough to live on without serious difficulty even after rape. They'll be in shocked, emotionally stressed, they'll go to therapy, and in a few years life will return to the way it was.
  
  Did he deserve a long ass sentence in prison? Probably. Did he deserve death? I don't believe in the death penalty but I can understand your feelings if you say yes. But did he deserve the kind of death he got?
  
  I can only say yes if that hammer to the head resulted in brain damage and the poor girl becomes handicapped for life. If this was the case, the man can go ahead and be lynched to death by an angry mob and that'll repent for actually ruining a person's life forever.
  
  But my primary concern here is the fact that an angry mob can form like that. Technically speaking, they all should've been arrested and charged with an off degree of murder.

  In a western society i'd say this shouldn't have happened, but where he was I doubt he'd get much more than a bit of jail time. And more likely than not for the hammer to the head, rather than the rape.
  
  In a western prison he'd do more time, and get raped by big hairy men, regardless of the soap being dropped or not, so it is an adequate punishment. Not to mention when he gets out he's a registered sex offender.
  
  So I do think killing him was not harsh, because they probably knew how little punishment he would get, but they should have put a bullet between his eyes or something instead. Maybe a good hanging.

  Well it doesn't speak well for the area that the mob felt the need to inflict even more punishment themselves after the police showed up.

  Anyway, on a personnal matter, I look down on what these woman did. Avoidable pain and suffering is best to be avoid for the world's balance. In their place I would just have killed the guy in a quick and less painfull way I can. You remove a bad apple from the world without affecting it's balance too much.

  In my mind, rape is just as equally barbaric. No one should rape another and even have a chance of receiving minimal punishment.
  
  I am not condoning to be so brutal or that this mob attack was necessary, but I feel no remorse for the rapist - taking their life by a bullet or quicker means would not change the zero amount of pity I have, only happier for the townspeople that they didn't revert to a mob.
  
  
  However I do feel sorry for the wife and children of the rapist, I can only imagine what slur of emotions they're experiencing right now
  
  I really hope their neighbors don't turn on them because the the faulty of the husband :worry:

  I'm not sure she can call herself the "cause" since it both in the rape attemp and the burning, she didn't make any choice.

  I know it wasn't an actual quote - it just seemed as if the sentence was worded in a way I probably thought was sympathetic

  To me, another example of "I cannot choose the victim" - the girl was a victim from the man, and he the victim of the wrath followed because of his crime.
  
  It's hard for me, in these cases, to see the second event as a crime at all.

  That "quote" is wrong because it's from the wrong perspective (and because it almost makes the rapist seem innocent). It's not like she asked to get beaten and raped. Nor did she ask the women to burn the guy alive. She merely shouted for help.
  If I were to compare two "entities", it would be the rapist, and the mob. Both crazy, but only one point of view is at least more understandable than the other.

  "I killed a man in a horrible way because he beat and raped a girl."
  
  Moral of the story: Do not do horrible things without being ready for karma.
  
  Judging by the area the story took place in, this is as close to real justice as it would get. It's not uncommon enough to have men rape a woman to get her to marry him. Now that she's been raped, she'd be "tainted" and so often, she'd have no choice in the matter, because her parents want to retain the family honor. If the woman goes to a judge, often, the judge will say, "why don't you just marry him?"
  
  I'm not saying this was the case with the girl, but this is just how a lot of women are still treated, in places like that.

  I'm in no way saying the rapist/attacker (Don't forget he swung a hammer to her head) is innocent or whatsoever, but I see his punishment as too grave for his crime. A death sentence is already stepping over some people's lines here; being beaten (to probably near death, if the article is any proof) and then being publicly (Humiliation? Possibly) burned alive to death is too inhumane for me. And that's with consideration of the village society's mindset there.

  In most cases, its really not the case. Though the normal assumption would be that "the person deserves death", its really is a decision that comes from your emotions.
  
  I don't know how it is in India, but here in America punishment for rape is pretty damn solid. Your life is more or less equally ruined if convicted of rape, regardless of jail time. Don't really need to elaborate, but imagine living with sexual offender tag placed on your records at all times no matter where you go. Hell, people can look you up online. You will have lost all your friends. Your boss, if you can even find a job, will know you're a rapist. Your entire neighborhood will know. Changed man or not, people will take advantage of this fact. You will become society's scapegoat. You will be the first to be accused of anything.
  
  And its easy to say "burn that man", but you'd have to be quite barbaric to actually do it or watch it happen and not regret saying it. You're just as bad as the rapist if you watch any sentient being, no matter how bad their actions, suffer through excruciating pain and call it "justice" at all.
  
  Talking about killing someone and actually watching them die are two completely different things. What you think you could do in theory will completely change the way you look at life in practice.
  
  Again, I'm not entirely disagreeing with the other side of the argument either. But I find that side to be a very emotionally driven decision. Had I been placed in a similar situation, I would probably torture the man until death myself. Similar to a Law Abiding Citizen scenario. You can't help but sympathize the main character, but what he did was wrong wrong wrong.
  
  My primary concern with the article is that it doesn't say the women who mobbed the man wasn't arrested for what they did. I don't care about the events that led up to it. The fact is, a group of women got together, beat a man, prevented the police from interfering, and then burned him to death. They should all be arrested and charged with multiple crimes.
