I know this was done awhile ago, but it said not to necro old posts. Some background to the real purpose of this question:
Going to start playing this with my wife who will most likely find the game daunting. I want to make it as easy as possible for her to play the game so what I'm looking for is the best character she can chose knowing she will be playing the game 90% of the time in a party (where I will be able to carry her hopefully). I know she will prefer a female character, but I didn't want to limit the poll for now.
Also, I would love to hear opinions on the best pairing for both of the female characters to help me with my choice of who to play.

Evie is the easiest character to play.
Fiona takes quite a bit of skill to learn to play with
Karok...no clue
Lann is the hardest character in the game
As far as evies go, keep your wife as a staff evie and she'll have vindi easy mode.

Karok also needs timing. Fiona needs general knowledge of when to do what. Lann needs a lot practice on timing your dodge. Evie, especially staff, requires little to none timing, in a party.
Definitely go for staff evie, easiest to dodge boss attack, and doesn't need a lot skills to deal top damage (range advantage + high damage percentile).

she should play Karok just for teh lulz
definitely staff evie though.

I am going to vote for Karok just because Karok can withstand any attack, even unblockables, even Colru's super "you better hide in a corner" attack, even the ep 9.5 Dragon's super fire blast and whatnot. If it hits, Karok can shock absorb it. And it's not like it's hard to Shock Absorb if you just chuck your weapon away and start punching. Your damage won't be too bad either since you'll always be attacking.

Evie will probably be the easiest to learn if you're completely new to the game (as mentioned above).
If you have some prior experience, both Fiona and Karok are fairly easy to become proficient with (they both have relatively easy to time blocks/dodges).
You should probably stay away from Lann though.
So probably Evie > Karok/Fiona > Lann.
In regards to pairing.
An Evie and Fiona combo should work very well. A good Fiona will be able to keep the boss focused on her, which leaves the Staff Evie plenty of time to unleash Focus spells or magic arrows. Karok would also do the job, being able to deal hits while surviving (meaning the boss will be more likely to focus on him). Not to mention his Clash and Boss Bash (extending knockdowns). She also works well with Lanns, as she is able to help them stay alive longer with coronas (and Lanns have no problems outside of raids and a few bosses). Really Evie works well with everyone.
For Fiona, any class that focuses on hit and run tends to work well with her. Fiona has an easier time managing boss aggro, meaning that she can help other party members by attracting boss attention (F11 - Sit works very well for this). Though no class really is bad with another.
Also note that Hammer Fiona is probably the easier weapon for Fiona to use, mainly due to the fact the boss will die sooner.

evie. as long as yu can use stamina efficiently, evie is easy to use. plus ma spam gives you an advatnage and also allows evie players to get top dmg with ease
id say spear lann is the 2nd easiest to use. people just dont know how to time sprint smash correctly.
fiona is harder cause it realy requires eye - hand cordination and without a good atk speeed item, its pretty hard to deal dmg.
karok is somewhat decent and can take any attack, absorb shock. with good timing, clash is also good.

I'd say Evie, mostly because, well, I main a Lann. His skill requirements are so high it's nearly impossible to do good in the earlier stages of the game. And good luck to you and your wife's ... gaming? xD

Karok > Fiona > Lann
Its easy to go offensive while going defensive when playing karok with shock. By my experience its easy to survive raids as Karok (EX: Glas spamming them hax magic) They are also easy from lower lvl to high lvl.
Nothing bad about shocking all of raid boss's attacks, except Glas's grab and hugging Thor while using its shock.
(I have never played Evie)

It's a mix up between staff Evie and Karok if you ask me. Staff has a ranged advantage and mana amber, not to mention alchemy to draw aggro but Karok can just click and deal damage while also tanking anything. Scythe evie I don't find to be nearly as easy as her staff counterpart and actually harder than lann (better watch that stamina or you're beyond dead). And I find Fiona (especially hammer) the hardest to play. She has great survivability BUT the catch is that you have to know exactly what you're doing. When other characters do the same action no matter what attack is thrown at them, Fiona must decide whether she needs to HS or if she can pull off a counterattack (or both since we have HS counter now).

Karok still need some mastering on the timing.
I have seen a lot idiot Karok that dies to titan, and just a complete waste of feather, doesn't even do any damage at all.
Staff, on the other hand, can drop like raindrops and still do decent damage.
I don't think his mate is going to put down the time to know when to use what attack, so staff is definitely the best choice. (long range, meaning not so intense; mana embmer, best panic button, high spell percentile and good MA spam dps, works well either way, very versatile.)
If she don't mind doing lower damage, I guess Fiona is also another good class for her, since Fiona excels in surviving.

with a 66 staff, 63 longsword (fixing that), 62 spears and 58 karok i always get on my karok for easy mode (not game mode) or soloing (as i think i've solo'd everything up to jirkal with my karok except for blood lord, lag, shady forest and holy ground (edit: and irukul and the raid-axe guy...forgot those).
since you're playing together, staff can be played poorly with the most room for error if she's cool with ma-spam. help her avoid amber though...that thing's way less helpful than it seems.
since you never actually said she was inexperienced at games in general:
if she's a good gamer (twitch-wise), fionas add skills at a pretty manageable rate and once you undestand guard/hs there's not a lot more to them besides which smashes are the most efficient. they're probably the least complicated and have more room for error than karoks and lanns.
as for what to play with her...depends on what you're good with. i would only recommend not playing 2 staff evies. having melee dps keeping at least some of the aggro is the thing that makes staff easy.

Heh thanks. What will probably happen is I make a character to play 50%+ of the time on my own, and then the other 50%- of the time I will hop on a 2nd character to play with her. I’m assuming if I stay at one character I will outlevel her to the point that I don’t want to be in the instances she has to do. Don’t know about xp differences or anything.
I see there is some benefit of running old instances again, but I’m worried I will outlevel her far too much.
Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I would recommend Evie (with a staff) because:
- with some basic dodging skills it's pretty easy to avoid most attacks (and Mana Amber is an easy fallback plan)
- she can deal damage from outside of the range of most attacks
- she is extremely versatile in her abilities - from reviving, to healing (via erg crystals and corona), to granting attack opportunities (with freezing and Reverse Gravity), to damage dealing
- she has a lot of cute sets and a few that are exclusive to Evie
- and finally, she is really fun to play!
