well he was able to add gender icons
so I don't see why he wouldn't be able to add it along with location (which I don't think was a vbulletin default)

Transgender icons have their uses either because someone does not feel right about identifying as a certain sex when they are pre-op, inbetween or perhaps even post-op. You're also forgetting there are those cisgender people who do not identify as either, and respectfully wish for others to do the same, using gender-neutral pronouns such as "they", "them", "their", etc. And while I don't think we have anyone like that, it's still nice to make this a friendly environment for someone like that if they had ever happened to stop by.
To get on topic, though; I don't see why not.

I'm still trying to decide whether to be for or against it. I think right now I'm leaning against. It just doesn't seem like it'd be that helpful... though it doesn't necessarily have to be helpful to be here.
I would use it if it was put in though.

Yes, and I would approve of removing them all 8D!
Why?

Saying something like "Their favorite color is blue" when referring to one person is improper grammar (number disagreement). My grammar is not particularly sound, but number disagreement is a pet peeve of mine. It's probably because I have to write allot of "academic" papers for one of my classes, and the teacher gets on my case if I do that too much.
By the way, you win life for having a Gandalf quote in your signature.

it would have the same amount of use as the people who legitimately put their location down
it's just something to share
customization, you know, useless junk

A simple way around the whole "abuse" of the age is to have the age that's displayed be the same as the age that the person's birth-date that they used to sign up for the site. That way, you don't get those people who are 17 one week, and then 38 the next. However, as many have said, and I agree as well, there's no real need for this. If you must know someone's age, either ask them directly, or go with the more round about approach, and go through each date on the calender, looking for the person's name, and there's a chance that they chose to show their age along with their birthday.

Yeah, we should remove the join date while we're at it, and why not an optional option to hide pet icons or something?

Eh, I think it should be on the profile page instead of under the thingy, I think we should have a favorite shape or something, just for the lulzies.

people (like me) judged him for his age but he kinda proved to be more mature than I thought

Was looking through this thread for me to show up :D

This seems like a good idea. I'd like to see it tested a little first.

I think it's unnecessary, just like the transgender icon was unnecessary. I didn't oppose the addition of those icons, but people have been abusing them way too much >__>, at least imo.
If you want to know their age, just ask them. If you want to know their age without them aware of the fact that you know it, it feels like you just want to judge them by their age.

Or maybe I want to display it
eh?
I never stated
"I want to know other people's ages"
I said I want the option to display it
We could have the feature and I could be the only one that uses it for all I care

Bottom line, for me, I don't think it needs to be on the posting page, period.
If it were added, I think it should be in your profile page in the About Me tab, along with all of that other various information.

It's improper because we don't have any Gender neutral pronouns in the English language. Not legit ones, anyhow. But I know what you mean.
I only recently learned the actual definition of cisgendered people and there are still a few things I need to learn because the whole cis-thing is pretty damn confusing and odd to me, but as someone in a similar boat I try and be open-minded.
thanks brah. Gandalf needs his own damn book of quotes. Everything he says is just magical and amazing.

I still kind of like this idea.
In fact, it's actually grown on me since I first posted in this thread.
But really, to the people who think it's useless, so are location, gold, pets, profile music, profile pictures, and other things.
