I log in to the forum using a separate alt account on my PC. I play vindictus on my laptop launching with the EXE. I still got hacked. Keylogging, brute force hacking, and forum compromise aren't the issues. I think it's either a database compromise or a security hole.
I've been talking to a few people and we think that it may have to do with joining a hacker's boat. When we connect to a host, we're sending and downloading packets from them and the packets get routed to nexon's server. What if they found out some security flaw that allows them to manipulate the packets to impersonate any user they want. Or able to read the data in the packets to get the password...
Was reading nexon forums and this seems like the only viable way people are getting hacked. Since someone can host boats, they can also read other player's info. Watch out the next time you join a pug. You could be next. Let guildies/friends host boats.
Not 100% sure this is the reason people are getting hacked but it's possible.

If this is true...i may be forced to quit. No more raids.

just do raids with trusted friends. That's normally what I do anyways, but I do join PUGs sometimes.

I remain skeptical.

Geez if this is true, then it feels pointless to keep playing, because the only active boats are pretty much the raid boats...You barely even see anything other than that anymore.

I raid constantly and I've never been hacked despite playing actively and having some things of value.
I really don't think people are getting hacked from raids.

Unless Nexon is obscenely stupid (obscenely stupid), then the packets sent to hosts from other players will not contain account information. That would just be a waste of bandwidth and wouldn't have any gain. There's just no feasible reason to do that.
Impersonating someone by ganking info from incoming packets is more believable, although I'm skeptical on that one since I don't know how the source engine/Vindictus handles its p2p connection. Maybe one of these days I'll actually get around to connecting my laptop to my router directly to see what exactly is being sent over the wire, since I did also want to check what's being sent to their website during a login at one point.
Actually, thinking this over a bit, the latter does make some amount of sense, since it would at least partially explain why when a host randomly lag spikes, a hammer Fiona might turn into a sword Fiona, or large shields might turn into small shields.

What?
I've never, ever seen this happen...

Very plausible. But I do PUGs all the time and haven't been hacked, might be because I'm only level 34 with nothing valuable.

It's happened in a Lionotus raid I've been in. All the Fionas had small shields and were WTFing. ._.

That effects also happens often enough on revival. It's hard to tell, but you'll see Small Shield animations with a Large Shield. The really dumb part is that you still can't use counters when this happens, so you get a shield that's more of an epic fail shield then anything.

I've never played a Fiona enough to get that glitch lol.
But I remember when scythes just came out and the scythes would switch to staff attack patterns.

This isn't quite what I described, but it's close enough.

Host was lagging so bad that somehow I turned into him, despite the fact that I was using a sword at the time. Which then turned into a hammer.
They've mostly fixed the hammer -> sword glitch (and yeah, scythe -> staff glitch as just mentioned), but you can still get the large shield -> small shield glitch.

Or people can get a better antivirus to not get keylogged
