Big update is coming

This is an archive of the mabination.com forums which were active from 2010 to 2018. You can not register, post or otherwise interact with the site other than browsing the content for historical purposes. The content is provided as-is, from the moment of the last backup taken of the database in 2019. Image and video embeds are disabled on purpose and represented textually since most of those links are dead.

A really, really huge ass update to mabination is on its way.
We won't even be on vbulletin anymore.

VB is becoming a heavier product with every update, adding crap I don't want. Half the vbulletin features are turned off and we have about 60 mods added on just to get the current functionality, even for very basic things like managing IP bans properly.

I've been testing xenforo and it seems to offer a lot more flexibility than vbulletin, and they develop faster and accept a lot more user feedback. So we're switching to that now that it's had a while to mature into a proper product (I looked into it around a year ago and it was nowhere near as good as it is now).

We're going to temporarily lose some custom features like the shop, since i'll have to make one from scratch for the xenforo platform, but in the long run we'll be able to have more features since xenforo keeps things simple and easy to customize, unlike VB.

I have no idea when I'll be ready to go with the update, still have many things to test and never enough time, but hopefully in the next month the migration to xenforo and all the basic functionality will be ready to go, and from there we'll move on to adding other features like the new shop.

It makes VB look like a pile of horse ****. It's also very new, and created by some people who quit from the VB dev team (probably because VB looks like a pile of horse ****). I was hoping to switch to it eventually, and at the moment it's finally matured enough to be able to migrate to.

I had to scroll up when mentioning it to my brother. Weird and confusing name..
