Most of these so-called-hackers are just leechers. Only 1 person actually made this "hack" and it got leaked. These little kiddie-wanna-be-hackers will be found soon by nexon. They're not making any attempt to conceal their actions which is pretty stupid from a "hacker" point of view. Anyhow Enjoy your new year Everyone 5:50 pm here (6 more hours till new years day) :skip:
I also heard that going on any account can get your computer a virus, if you get summoned or not. Is it true? :shock2:
That's not true, it was a scare tactic. Don't believe everything the script kiddies say, fear is a powerful weapon. I also heard that going on any account can get your computer a virus, if you get summoned or not. Is it true? :shock2:
I'm going to have to call BS on that statement. I'm studying networking and have been dealing in tech-related things for a while now, and that just doesn't make any sense. Often people will accomplish things through other means and then just chalk it up to "IP tracking" and **** like that in order to scare people (or sound like they know what they're talking about). Every single time I've seen any mention of "IP tracing" like that, it's always been bull****. That's not how the internet works in general. there are ways to track your IP and get your account info through that.
Update: Looks like they now CAN choose which item you lose by loading your item ids. Yeah, this one is definitely different from the one I read about last night, since that couldn't delete certain items.

Cool copying and adding/removing words.
Regardless, nice to see something stickied.
People, this is considered a serious situation as far as the game is involved. If you have actual info about what's going on please post it, but if you're just going to post about rumors and FUD, refrain unless you've actually seen any proof or have had something happen to you (and then, please try to be as detailed as you can, for the benefit of others).

There's only one situation in which that would be possible, and that's if Nexon keeps an account<->IP database for this sort of thing and people had access to it. Nexon keeping such a database at all is unlikely (on a technical level there's only a few uses for such a database and as far as I've seen Nexon employs none of them given the way they handle accounts), and even if they did anybody remotely accessing it is violating the computer fraud and abuse act (USC title 18, part 1, chapter 47, section 130) given that Nexon/devCAT is a multi-national entity, so they risk up to 5-10 years in jail (depending on how things are interpreted by the court) if caught.
However, sitting around and bull****ting about "IP tracing" to scare people when they actually got the info through other methods (accessing e-mail accounts, nabbing your IGN and IP separately off of a forum and matching those together in-game, or good old social engineering) is much less risky while still scaring the living **** out of people, isn't it? So that's the path a majority of people take.

I just said it was all compiled info.
:ninja:
Have you been around at all? This isn't something new.
Couldn't agree with you any more. I'm studying game programming in college right now. See the issue is not the hackers danger its more or less the ignorance or uneducated info that is spread which people believe. The little "hackers" aren't smart enough to call themselves "hackers". I find it ironic how one person made this hack which got leaked and abused by your popular "script kiddies" who probably only copied/installed the program/file or inserted it into the game cache/folder via some way then started using it. I highly doubt any of them even know how this packet script works, and if i can get my hands on it then i could probably figure out how it works :shoe: All i know for a fact is these "hacker kiddies" are gonna get found and banned. But will banning resolve the issue? im not sure. They can always re-create another account and hack agian. Even patching the game client. The best way to end this? is if nexon goes after the SOB who actually programs the scripts cause he's the one causing the real damage. But that's harder than it sounds. Patching only extends the timeline before this person creates a new exploit in the game code. That's a present issue with mmo's is that the code is not protected. Unfortunately, theres no way to "protect it" so any programmer smart enough and malicious enough can go in and study the code and tweak with it till they get the desired effect :l
