  If you value total resources and effort put into the game, total level would be a good indicator, along with skill ranks. If you value resource optimization, average levels/rb would be a good indicator.
  
  I value general combat proficiency, so I would look at solo and party dungeon clear times. Seems fairly objective to me.

  Odds are, H1111 and other botters can't handle themselves in tough situations, or are as knowledgeable as the other half -> the half that actually works for and thinks out how to get better.

  Once you get your bread and butter wm/crit to r1, you have a lot of the same offensive potential as everyone else. Stuff like smash, barrier spikes, blaze, cm, ice spear make you more versatile, giving you an edge on damage and survival, but they hardly guarantee that you outperform others. I see plenty of 1k+s flailing at the first sign of multi, and playing so rigidly you'd think they just graduated from icecounter yesterday.
  
  I've never really partied with the famous high-levels of Ruairi, but I doubt most of the people nominating them have either. High levels imply a lot of resources being put into the game, but they don't guarantee performance in battle.
  
  If we're going off the best in terms of pve, we should nominate the best players that we personally have played with, and can actually vouch for.

  I have in Ruairi. Was nice seeing Trigger in Peaca basic a long long time ago with his crap ranked WM.
  Trigger's a good competent player. But like most of us we prefer soloing rather than partying.

  It depends on the situation, as one person can be great in one dungeon and awful in the next. As a player that focuses on holding enemies down, I myself find it extremely easy to deal with bosses and melee-type enemies, but I have a difficult time holding my own against groups of archer-type enemies. For instance, I can haxors a Sliab Cuilin golem on Hard without getting hit by using only well-coordinated smash mills and pet rams, but I have a difficult time against groups of shadow archers since they're always a bit out of my reach.
  
  Edit: As ironic as this may sound, I think that the simple notion that total levels indicate being the "best" is the one we should focus on since most of us only have a cursory understanding of what it means to be proficient in Mabinogi.
