We went to the states today for shopping, and since I wasn't particularly interested in any clothes (we didn't go to the Seattle outlet, we only stopped by at Bellingham, which is pretty small and doesn't have many stores I'm crazy about), and also since I just finished my RCM History & Grade 10 piano exams, my parents got me a new DSi.
My friends have those cards with 200 games on them, and I know they're sold at that really asian mall a block down the street, but I have no idea what they're called, or which ones are the best ones. I don't want to go to the store to ask because they love to rip people off. What're some good card-thingies and how much should I be paying?
I'm really uninformed, I know. :what: Comes from having really asian parents that were like, no you can't have a game console or anything because you have to study. And yet.. *glances at computer*. Mhm...
And please stay on topic, because I'm going to go buy one probably.. tomorrow, and I don't really want to have to go through pages of spam to get information. :<

If they sell you the things with games already loaded on to them, ask if you can try it out first. If it's unused still in the box though, just buy it and put whatever games on it. Sometimes though, the illegal cartridges don't work on the DSi. I had to give mine to my sister since I got a DSi D;

DSi needs the R4i. You can buy an R4 for about $10-40 on Amazon and in mainland China, but the chinese dealers here in the U.S. sometimes charge it for $50-100. That's the R4 though, don't know about R4i prices. It's probably the same or a bit higher since it's a card that can work for the DSi(R4 doesn't work). Note there are other flashcart brands(Acekard, CycloDS, etc.). Google them to learn them all and see what your chinese mall is selling. Some of them are better, some of them aren't so good.
When you've got a flashcart, go to this site: http://www.hkorz.com/ It's got almost all the games that are released right now and in different languages based on regions(Usually USA, ENG, and JP). Your flashcart may have a firmware that lets it run some of the ROMs, and most of the games have Anti-piracy stuff that makes the game unable to play, crash, or not save. There are patches to the ROMs, and you can go to gbatemp.com(google it, I'm too lazy to make link) to search for them or they are found in a seperate download in hkorz.com. Yes, you do need to register for it, and it's free. The site is partially cantonese or chinese, but they have basic English so you can understand what to do. Pick Bandago for download sites since it's faster, but if there is only 1(it's usually file.it or something) that will have to do.
I'll suggest some games for you to start with:
-Castlevania(Any 3 are fine, note that the 2nd one, Portrait of Ruin, has a tendency to crash.)
-Final Fantasy 3, 4
-Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time(Action RPG, it's fun but gets repetitive after awhile, but still fun)
-The World Ends with You(Modern-Day Action RPG with a great storyline)
-Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and Partners in Time(Both great Mario RPGs, the Inside Story however, has tons of anti-piracy protection)
-Dragon Quest Series
-Metal Slug 7
-The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks
-Pokemon(Any one of them will do, note that Platnium is the better version of Diamond and Pearl)
-Bomberman 2
-Big Bang Mini
-Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
-Cooking Mama 3(Seriously... This is pretty fun and it's something to do when you're bored)
-New Super Mario Bros.
-Mario Party DS
I guess that's all for now. I can recommend you more if you want, just PM me. Oh, and most of the games that are based off movies are TOTAL CRAP. Don't download them. Try not to bring your DSi to events or school, as those flashcarts are the main thing a napper will take(Along with the DS)

I got the Acekardi from some online store in Taiwan or something for like $12. Shipping took about a week, although it said expected was 2-4 weeks. I picked the Acekard because lots of flashcart forums that I lurked pretty much said it's the best one out there. I forgot what the website where I got mine was, but
this one has them for $15 (if you use a different place, including the asian mall, you'll have to be wary of fake chips).
The ROM files are easy to find. Basically type "DS roms" into google and you'll get a plethora of sites that work. The
first link does the job.
Though do note, a lot of the flashcarts require a Micro SD memory card to use. In which case, eBay! (I got 2 x 8GB for $12 - which is way overkill seeing as how like all games are under 1MB)

Thank you thank you :>
I'll go ask around and bring my dad so they don't try to rip me off because I'm a kid :<
And I already have a microSD because I had to have one for my phone (stupid LG neon doesn't have a USB cord e-e), I guess I'll try the mall before shipping, since I'm hella impatient and have nothing to do.

Make sure you get a 2GB MicroSD. Having a 1GB only keeps 5-6 games.

Buying a DSi was probably a bad idea considered the 3DS will come out next year +_+

I'd rather not wait a year, and my parents probably won't get me one then, anyways.

What the R4i? Seriously? Do you know that's a clone FlashCart?
There are so many R4 Clones and they tend to not work on many of the features they promise tend not to work or work horrible.
Okay let me tell you what a clone FlashCart is.
A clone FlashCart is a FlashCart that tend to copy a another FlashCarts software and tends to fail.
For Example the R4i can't use the original R4 software and ect, ect.
The only real R4 carts is the ones that say R4.
But the R4 company broke up a long time ago so I doubt you'll buy the real one
My opinion is to get the Acekard 2i. It's not a clone FlashCart it's a official one and the team gives constant updates on the firmware so with games that games that have Anti-Piracy software the AceKard 2i can Bypass them.|
AceKard 2i Review by GBAtemp
This is where I bought my Official R4 before the company went Bankrupt but if you don't trust it their are other sites at GBATemp

I dun know my flashcarts because I have an original R4 and therefore don't research up on these things. Only stating what I know, didn't know the R4i was a clone.

Google "DS Homebrew".
Also, If you don't already have it. BUY Custom Robo Arena. Probably one of the most underrated games on the DS. It's better than Pokemon Diamond IMO.
