Although God is depicted as a Man in.. basically every religious text I've read that involves God, I've always wondered why that was such a 'solid' conclusion for most. Even when I've come across people who have different views about how God looks or even is, God is always shown as a Man in their eyes. But I'm curious as to why.
My thoughts are because at the time when the bible was written, sexism was beyond evident, so clearly such a powerful being had to be shown as a Man. There was just no other alternative at that time in the views of the people.
Yet, I still can't find myself picturing God as a Man.
Think of it this way;
God was a creator of all things, a giver a life, etc etc. And Woman are also givers of life. So, wouldn't God be more befitting as a Woman? A Mother/Creator of all? A protector and a nurturer?
I personally think God is both sex and genderless, but since people seem to want to give God a sex, Female just seems like the more logical choice.

I mean, he made Adam as an image of himself soooo...

I learned from CCD that God was Man but sometimes they refer to him as sexless. I'm not really sure either....

Yeah, Adam was made in God's image, but I also think he's kind of sexless. :S
God's just a confusing concept to me.

God's sex shouldn't matter anyways

Simple. Sexless. The only reason I believe why God is portrayed/revealed himself as a man was because of the role of men and women during those times. I wouldn't go as far and to say it's sexism (maybe to our modern-day eyes), but simply a fact on the roles of men and women back then.
I mean, could Jesus have went to all the places he went to and done the things he did as a women? In our modern era, probably.
But back then? ... Good luck with that.
Of course, I should mention that there are many reputable women described in the Bible. I never fully understood the whole the "Bible is sexist" viewpoint, personally.

I'm referencing the Bible here...
God is thought to be male. Even though people may argue there are certain "reasons" why God can be a female, it says within the text that he made Adam in his own image, THEN made him a female because Adam seemed lonely.
Do note that there was already the concept of "female" already; there was just no female humans at the moment. There was a reason for that.
So yeah, God is considered a "male"

Quote from Akemii;746449:

A lot of things that don't matter are still discussed. It's called curiosity.
Also, another thing--
If he created men in his image and was a man himself, why didn't he make men the ones able to bare a child? If he himself was a creator and wanted to make men in his likeness, wouldn't it have made sense to give them the ability to create life as-well, instead of women?

I don't really believe in God but if I did, it would make more sense to me to have a sexless god.

i feel like god has a beard, but no junk.
but then, i also don't think god exists.

I don't think "God" exists, or believe in a lot of the [S]garbage[/S] stuff in the bible and most religious texts, but if "God" existed, "God" is an all-powerful deity that can do whatever "he" wants and be whatever "he" wants, whether it be male, female, sexless, or a fish.

You seem to assume that "God" is the same being across all cultures and religions. That just quite simply is not the case.
If you connect the dots, it's rather a civilization of these beings that we called gods, for whatever reasons.
I'm going to jump out on a limb here, not to sound quite as crazy as Tsoukalos, but... in all likelihood, these "gods" were just a more advanced race of beings posing as gods or misinterpreted as gods. It's a lot less crazy than imagining all powerful divine beings that just magically come down from the sky.
Anyways, we seem to be some kind of controlled experiment of some sort. This race that nudged along our progression, and likely tampered in our genetic code, it's unclear whether they're malevolent or benevolent. But whatever they are, they definitely seem to be very long lived.
Given that at our own current advancement, and my own work, we're on the verge of being able to live 1,000 years or more, it's not unrealistic to assume a species capable of traversing interstellar space would have progressed that technology enough not only to modify our species, but to also indefinitely increase their own lifespans as well.
Perhaps they even have a method of cloning or mind uploading that is only science fiction for us, but whatever the case, that seems to be why they're so patient in monitoring their experiment.
Though being an experiment is quite worrying. If we're just a controlled experiment then when they're done with us, they may very well just discard us. And I don't mean just leave us alone, I mean extermination.
When you remove basic things that hold our species back like morality and ethics, a highly advanced race of beings could be very nasty and unpredictable. Very bad for us.
I imagine we wouldn't even have a fighting chance if they decided to exterminate us, because they would do so before we had weaponry capable of fighting against them with. It's only logical.
It is scary to think of it like that, especially if some of the texts about an apocalypse for us (which will be their doing) end up being carried out.
Anyways, it would make all the claims of abductions make more sense. I mean, the chances of hundreds of thousands of people worldwide all claiming the same experiences, it's pretty unlikely to be coincidence. Sure, there's probably a percentage of nutjobs, but for some it could be true. Their way of running tests on their controlled experiment. It's a very scientific thing to do, once you remove ethics and morality, that is.

I'd say that God would be sexless, however seeing how humans need something familiar to cling onto they decided to portray God as a man due to social standards of the time. Not that I believe in the Yahweh or the one god.
