I've been told numerous times that last year Vindictus was no longer officially considered the prequel to Mabinogi. Is this true and if so...when? I'd really like to know. This would be disappointing news since that's the main reason I ever began playing it in OB to begin with.

Not true, especially with how Ep10 shaped up.

I didn't think so...I've been searching around and I couldn't find any official statements by any dev members.
So I'm just going to assume it was nothing more than a rumor?
Thanks.

Well, in the beginning the storyline of Vindictus seemed to be a bit iffy when trying to connect to the beginning of Mabinogi, but the recent spoiler releases of Episode 10 have made it much clearer.

(Possible Spoiler?)
Not only that, but Legatus also made a reference about Vindictus by stating the heroes and dragons history about how the five heroes fought with the dragons.

Am I seriously the only one who sees this as nothing but a PR campaign for heroes?

Yeah, I remember him mentioning that very well. All of this is why I was so confused but I highly doubt that it was scrapped as a prequel, I just wanted to make sure. Not being able to find even the smallest bit of info on it pretty much declares it false I guess.

It isn't since it is actually a solid piece in the generations despite what many people say(skippers).
Besides...I love being a Dragon Knight.

Really, it felt really unrelated besides Ferghus and Aodhan being around. Until Ep10, there isn't even a clear connection. Though Ep10 does pretty much make it actually related to Mabi, it all happens in one update over a year after initial release.
They did make it tie in well, but it seems like a mostly promotional thing due to how long it took them to actually make it a proper prequel.

If I recall, generation 7/8 explains the situation behind Giants and Elves being at odds as well as the role of Dragons in iria(obviously). I know Neamhain is the one who sealed the Dragons in Zardine as well as the undead beings in Metus(no direct mention of this but there are similar pillars at the entrance just like Zardine). The tie-in with Adniel to the soul stream leads further into the generations, he mentions being connected to it by destiny which later you do have to save it(obtaining demi god).
There were a couple of other things but...g8 is pretty much an introduction to the past of Iria. It's explained in more detail later on in g10 and such. This is going by memory, I'm not 100% sure on all of this since it's been so long since I've done these generations.

And none of this has anything to do with vindi, yet.
Seriously, you're reading too much into it. Just a brief mention to promote heroes in korea, nothing more, nothing else.

Oooh...you just mean that small mention in the generation about the heroes and dragons. I thought you were saying the whole generation is a promo.
Haha...yeah, they didn't explain much of that at all. It's explained how the dragons ravaged Iria but Neamhain was the one who sealed them away...I haven't seen any sign of Neamhain or Iria itself in Vindictus/Heroes. It still hasn't been explained where Dragons came from or how they arrived in Iria because it's described that Neamhain created Iria as well as Elves and Giants.

Yes, I meant the little mention legatus does.

Nope, Vindictus is not a prequel to mabinogi. Vindictus is a different dimention that could have been a prequel to mabinogi.
Mabinogi has a slightly different past than vindictus and vindictus future will lead to a slightly different Mabinogi..
For example, if vindictus leaded to today's mabinogi, where are all the Staff ? The scythe, small spears? bombs? and so on..
In mabinogi's past, those didn't exist to begin with or were very rare.. Or the opposite, if vindictus would to lead to mabinogi, that mabinogi would have bombs and those other weapons.
In mabinogi, Alchemy (while known to have been used by fomor for a long time) is a recent discovery for human use. That contradict Evie using alchemy in vindictus.

I take them as gameplay inconcistencies really.
Mabi's storyline (for me at least) is just random and really hard to follow for the most part. I think Mabi contradicts itself at multiple points due to how long the game has been around. To see this extend into Vindi isn't too suprising.
While I do forget some of the finer plot points of Vindi and Mabi, I think there's still at least a couple hundred years of time between the two. All of those plot inconsistencies could be handwaved as being lost in the years between the two games.
Edit:
I do think that it has been stated somewhere that Vindi takes place in what is essentially the "Other World" in Mabi. With the conidition of that reality, which is still connected to Mabi, I wouldn't be suprised if some things would get lost there.
