I'd honestly try and listen to what BS comes out of his mouth if this wasn't from a guy who thinks global warming is a hoax and that rape is a gift from God.

Why do I feel like throwing a rock at him if I was in there...

His comment about the left being the death of reason is silly and over the top, but the argument he presented beforehand is sound. Santorum, generally speaking, is a pretty intelligent guy.

Rather than say that it is not alright to "settle" an argument by calling someone unreasonable as he calls an entire group of people unreasonable, shouldn't he point out these intrinsic goods in marriage between a man and a woman, and why it should remain so?
Not that I agree that this should be the case, but if I were arguing, I'd follow my own advice and stick to arguing with reason, not "you're all the death of rationality but you can't tell ME that I am!"

He has already done so several times. But people are being stupid and label him a bigot anyway.

Personally, I find anyone who denies someone a right when it doesn't do anyone harm based on the fact that they're different at least a tiny bit bigoted.
Right now, the only bad thing I can see about gay marriage is if the couple wants to adopt people feel the need to judge based on their parents being gay, regardless of whether or not they even did anything wrong.

Are you actually suggesting that's he's not a bigot? And that he's actually using "fair minded reason" in all of his statements?

if he's so reasonable
then take away marriage benefits
and second of all he's a phony who sells himself like other Evangelists
A phony in both religious faith and politics

I don't know him well enough to say that for everything he may have done. I just OTL when people have retarded reactions to the reasonable things he says, just 'cause they have different opinions on the matter. The definition for 'bigot' is pretty harsh and I think people are taking its meaning too lightly.

Care to present a good argument on why marriage benefits should be taken away?
Looking at the crap going on in the US with divorce rates right now, marriage needs to be strengthened, if anything.

RS wants war, that's enough for me to not support him. As for gay marriage I agree with (surprise, Ron Paul)
Marriage shouldn't entitle couples to special rights, as it is a religious ceremony, it should be seperate from Federal law entirely. So no, gays shouldn't marry (Because it's a christian thing, why marry in some crackedd religious ceremony anyway when you are probably not even a believer). What Ron Paul suggest is that no, gay shouldn't marry but Gay couples should have the same right as current married couple.

because gays cannot marry on the national level
therefore gay couples cannot receive the same benefits as straight couples if they choose to marry

That's not a good reason, as it has nothing to do with traditional marriage.
If A works and B is broken, you don't improve the situation by breaking A with some weird sense of justice or whatever. You fix B instead. Santorum isn't against gay couples having access to the same legal benefits. And I'm pretty sure I've read that they already have most, if not all of those benefits, anyway. In the case that they do not, that's a different issue entirely and I see no problems with addressing it.

Sadly for you, Marriage existed Before Christianity was established. That religion has no universal right over the word and the meanings of it.
Of course, I find it weird if they are trying to get a marriage in a Christian way when it's not their religion..
