Living with em. Change of scenery.
Since your 21st birthday is coming up some things will be changing. As a present, the changes won't take place until after your trip to Europe. The changes are:
Since you are an adult of all the sense of being 21 and since your not in school full time 1) Rent is 300 a month. 2) Rent that is 6 or more days late has a $25 late fee for each 5 days late. 3) The car will be in your own name, and you will pay your own insurance. 4) Cell phone will be in your name and you will pay for the full phone. Lastly, we give you a one year gift that we will still buy food until your 22 at which time you will need to buy all your own food. This is not a punishment. We are not mad at you. This is just a part of growing up that you will need to face.
How... "supportive".
I suppose unconditional love isn't a part of your relationship with your dad?
My birthdays not till May. I'm gonna be broke once I come back from Europe. I'm going to school full time in the Fall. As much as he has a point, I'm kinda screwed unless me being in school changes this. $300 for rent is practically my entire paycheck. zzzzzz
Ahahaha, I don't get that from either parent, but no it is not. Well for me I find it hard to love someone you don't like regardless of being family or not, and my dad continually has me dislike em. He's just kinda trying to figure out what to do with me, and how to get me to "grow up" as fast as possible, so I can leave the house.
I'll be honest here, you're 21.
Something like this is reasonably expected. If you're working full time and 300 dollars is your entire paycheck, you need to find a real job asap. They're not making you pay a share of the utilities, so thats actually a pretty fantastic deal. Probably a family discount even, if rent is 300 a month.
Most of my friends are now independent or pay rent to live at home. Its not that you should be upset about this, but rather anyone who is 21 and still living for free under their parents should be glad for it. I once had to house a guy who got kicked out of his house on his 18th birthday. Now THAT was cruel.
But in my opinion... I think you should call off your Europe trip. As for school... you will want to look into student loans.
I have a different philosophy about family and independence, but that's not something I'm willing to share and have you take thought in, because I'm fairly sure the majority of Nation would have a disagreement with some part of it or another.
Perhaps think of this as your dad wanting to see if you can still instill pride in him by being independent and "growing up".

I have to agree with Cucu (sorry, only thing I know you as). The Europe trip would be a lovely thing, but at this point of time in your life such luxuries should be last on your list of things to spend money on. You should be focusing on finding as decent a job as you can and using what money you do get on housing and school and other things of actual importance. I do not know the cost of an apartment up at where you live, but I am going to assume that $300 a month for living with your parents is cheaper. I would definitely be getting together with friends to talk about getting a place to live, or trying to find a cheap place for yourself if they are not able. Since your parents are still paying for food and utilities, it will likely be cheaper to stay with them for that year than moving out, but I would be searching for a place to live and a better job and saving up as much as I can until they cut you off.
Europe's trips not being cancelled. It will cost me $200 to cancel the airplane tickets.
When am I ever going to be able to go again anyway? Probably, never.
My next bonus is $500+ which comes soon
Parents paying for half of school
Oh well then, have fun! :D
There are approximately three more times in your life where you get to go on a big vacation.
[S]1. Honeymoon[/S]
2. Mid-life where you've settled and become a bit more financially secure
3. Retirement
Or if you're successful you can have a lot more 2's!
Walmart gives bonuses? After all the praise I get from my employers for being a good worker the best I've gotten was a 20 dollar gift card to Panda Express. MAD JELLY BRO.
Also mad jelly. My dad rakes in enough money to write his own auto biography on a book made of gold tablets and he still won't help me pay for school. Between living at an apartment and paying for school my total loan should be worth 64 thousand dollars, and with the accumulated interest through the years until I START paying it off should be about 80 thousand dollars, and the total amount I end up paying if I go on a 10 year plan to pay it off should be about 150 thousand dollars.
The hell do I do? This sucks. Its not like I can send any "leftovers" back because by my rough low living standard guesstimations I shouldn't have anything left to send back. I'm going to need to buy a car too at some point. I just hope I land a good internship and a job before I graduate so I can pay it off asap and hopefully finish off my payments before they reach 100 thousand, though that seems highly unlikely.
Better then most situations yes, but a change I need to adapt too.

:spit:
I think people are much better at adapting than they believe. It won't be as bad as you think, I believe. No matter how bad things get there are always something to look forward to.
And with increasing attention towards the student loan crisis I'm hopeful that the problem behind it will be addressed soon. Maybe they'll make it easier on us poor students owing hundreds of thousands of dollars and being unable to pay it off.
