Your Dad has such a weird view of how to raise children. You don't throw someone into the pool to teach them how to swim. Yeah, some people learn that way, but not everybody does. You teach 'em step by step and hope that one day if you do throw them into that pool, they'll manage to get out.
Not only is his dad's conditions totally fair, but actually GOOD.
As for rent, you'd better off gathering a group of your co-workers and being like, "We should get a place, guys. I need out." Didn't Kate wanna move out too or something, last time I remember?
Don't be ridiculous. He's not paying utility, 300 dollars a month is mad cheap even if he shares an apartment with room mates, and given that he's gotta throw in tons of start up fees, deposits, credit check (and denials, mind you), its going to run way higher than 300 to start living by yourself.
They're even paying for his food for a year. Food, even if you keep to a minimum, is at least 150 dollars a month. Thats about how much I was spending eating like 1500 calories a day, with the cheapest knock off brands.
Living at home = 300 dollars a month + everything else he needs to pay for
Living out of home = Easily 600 dollars a month + everything else he needs to pay for initially
Seems you haven't encountered independent life yet to be giving ridiculous advice like "move out" when he's not ready to. He needs to go to school, he won't be able to work full time, his current full time job doesn't pay very well, he can't actually fund himself if he moves out now.
