  Is there a LoL group? We should make one and do some Character Build guides there o_o that's if we don't have one I have no idea about it.

  Solo queue be trolling me. I keep having games with really awesome players who are nice and know how to play their champ, and the next game people who have no idea wtf they are doing and AFKing when someone points out 'Hey Amumu, don't try pushing alone when 4 are mia'. :(

  I'm personally against build sites now. You build what you need. Sure it's good for "core items" (IE on Ashe/Trist is a must), but after that, useless is useless.

  I like them. It gives you an idea on how to build some champs that don't follow the normal builds, and they are very good for new players who DON'T know those core builds.
  I mean, before the Last Whisper nerf, buying 3 Dorans blades then LS then IE... It isn't something a new player thinks of doing. You'd have to hear it from somewhere. That's what guide sites are for.
  It also gives knowledge that normally playing wouldn't give you, and things people find out by playing a single champion over and over, such as that messed up Shaco jungling route were you put 2 boxes near the golems, 3 near lizard, smite large wraith etc etc
  They also give you insights into other champions, so you can learn how to counter them.
  
  I especially like Leaguecraft because it has a rating system, so you know which guides tend to have good content, and which don't.

  That's also why you hit tab, and pay attention to what builds completely rape your face, and copy them when you feel like playing said champ. It's what I've done since my 200th win.

  I wrote an entire rant on how bad that advice was, but I'm too lazy to post it.
  So here's the short version:
  Most of the people reading this thread are going to be low-mid elo.
  You can get away with nearly ANYTHING in low-mid elo, provided you get lucky.
  I'll take a simple example: Double snowball Akali. I'm sure we've all been stomped by that build at some point.
  It's a dangerous build. Akali is squishy. Rushing those 2 items will delay your core items.
  If you die, GG. You just wasted around 2K gold on items that will be dead weights unless you recover, which is unlikely against a half-decent team.
  But maybe you'll get lucky. If they don't target you, you'll just snowball to your victory. If they don't target you, they are bad players.
  As your elo rises, that build will just start failing because the players you fight will become better and aim for you in teamfights.
  Another thing is Yi stacking Phantom Dancers. Sure, it might work... Assuming the enemy teams forgets Yi is in the match, doesn't buy any armor, has no CC at all, and doesn't do so much as breath in your general direction. You might get away with it against bad players, but against good players, no chance.
  
  Now, if you're already at a reasonable elo, or you're watching a stream of some top player, copying a build MIGHT work. After all, good players adapt their build to the enemy team, so a build that works against team X might not work as well against team Y.

  I've started playing LoL, mainly using Janna. She's so freaking amazing paired with a melee user. I played with an awesome (albeit suicidal) Garren and we fed until we were both four levels higher than the people we were laned with. He hid in the bushes while I would Zephyr/Exhaust, Eye him, and even use my ult to push the people back towards out tower. After I completed my Aegis and Soul Shroud we broke down every tower in the lane and proceeded to raid the enemy base. An Ashe joined us and we were able to plow through an inhibitor as well. Half health Garren could plow through two (only two levels lower) tank champions with only my buff/debuffs and ult saving him. At that point they surrendered, I ended with 5/3/17!
  
  Right now I'm really pissed at solo queue. Although I'm generally 3-4 games winning my games always depend on luck. I've even been told (after a crushing defeat of 0/2/1) "gj not feeding Janna." That's how I learned the term "feeding."

  I really like the build guides I found on mobafire. I looked at the certain items and the tips the authors gave and adjusted my build. I tried about four of the author builds and then chose the items I loved from the pool. As for tabbing to look at the items of other people, I've never encountered another Janna at my level (I did that when I was playing Annie though). Of course there's never one path, choosing Meja when you can't get kills is an example of that.
  
  Also, can anyone give me tips on using wards? I've read about places to put them but I'd like some first hand experiences with the duration, placement on people, and etc. Right now I don't have to use them (low level games are pretty simple) but I'm afraid I will get ganked if I don't.

  A Mejai would be good to buff up her damage, since she gets easy assists with Eye and her other skills.
  
  
  I got lucky in the solo queue today, got a team with 2 mages, 2 carries, and 1 off-tank. Won so easily, especially with a Nidalee that carried us to victory. :> and Ashe is fun to play as; if you have MP though. x.x

  Wards are a must if the enemy team has a jungler. I mean, you want one at every entrance to your lane, if you really want to shut down the enemy jungler, one at their blue/red buff.
  When warding dragon, but it at the very entrance to Dragon. That way you can see exactly when the jungler goes past, and not just when they do Dragon.
  If you're playing a very item dependent champ (Pretty much any carry) you probably shouldn't be buying many wards. The tank and support champ should be, unless they really need a certain item.
  Also, wards don't work that well when only 1 person buys them. But when you have 3-4 people buying them, you pretty much know exactly where the enemy team is all the time, which is an amazing advantage.

  Wards should usually be placed if you're at risk of being ganked. Just like lira said, usually place them near entrances to your lane and near buffs/dragon/baron. I personally play TT all day so wards are less of a problem, but assigning areas to ward to each teammate is a good strategy to keep full map awareness.
  
  PS: Lira, that site you gave me had a pretty in-depth Akali guide, but the build itself seemed crappy. I'll stick with my Rylai's->LB->Rabadon's->Impromptu build.

  Hit and run is how I play until lv9. Then I just burst people for 1.5k damage and score aces nonstop.
