I feel like it would be best for topics of a morally, ethically, religiously, or politically sensitive nature to be moved to Rua's house. As it's defined, users in Rua's house are expected to hold themselves to a respectable and mature standard, and I feel that mindset should be a necessity in such topics.
I also would really like for expired warnings and infractions to expire from profile setting pages as well. As I understand the point system, expired objects no longer count against a user. I don't see why they need to be constantly reminded that they once did something wrong in the past. (At the very least, I would like to see it moved down on the list, so it's not the first thing I see every time I want to change my avatar.)

There are two types of auto-bans.
One from the amount of points you have (expired infractions don't count)
The other from the amount of infractions you got (expired infractions DO count)
So, that's why it stays there I guess, besides, it's all wired in vBulletin, changing that would probably require boring work.

I say yes to both of these ideas.
After all, as you said, the threads DO fit in the definition of Rua's House.
I don't have much of an opinion on the latter idea because all but one of my infractions are actually warnings.

The effect against your account expires, but the notification is permanent.
And I don't think too much is expected. Rua's house was created in an effort to show that nation is full of mature and understanding people capable of handling sensitive, difficult, and quirky or bizarre topics in a respectable and patient manner.
Any user who petitions for access to Rua's house subjects themself to those restrictions as part of a social agreement both with Osayidan as well as with the other users in Rua's house.

I would prefer topics on Religion being banned in general, simply because we have a lot of members here (myself included) who have very strong stances on Religion, and it's been shown various times that we can't really have a discussion about it without it turning into a huge fight.
Obviously it will come up at some point or another, but at-least preventing topics being made specifically about it ought to help some.
Politics is.. eh. I think it should be allowed because it's an important topic, especially in light of elections this year. Though those topics should be watched over carefully.

Are you saying the chances of at least moving it down are slim? D:

I would agree that I prefer just not talking about certain things, but what I would prefer more is the confidence that I can come to nation with anything at all, and still be respected. Maybe not particularly liked, but at least treated with respect.

Now that I think about it, huge agree with this. I can never stomach religion threads because they often start out great but derail into a blazing inferno really quickly.
-
Cynic wrote on 2012-03-07 03:24
I agree with that as-well. But religion really seems to be one of those discussions that turns sour even if we're all trying to be respectful. It's not really anyone's fault in particular, it's really just the topic itself.
Aside from that, though.. I think we can all discuss other topics without it being a gigantic issue. We all need to work on how we act around others as-well as certain topics, but I think the majority of us can learn in due time. So hopefully we can stick with certain topics in news/everything else/etc without having to move 'um to Rua's House because some people can't act mature about the topic and/or start arguments.

If you can't handle certain topics, feel free to ban yourself from them. We're not going to institute a forum-wide ban on it because you have personal issues with it, though. So far, most topics of a political/religious/ethical nature have remained civil, so they'll remain accessible to the forum at large.
Of course, if you don't want to deal with that, you can always make the thread in Rua's House.
-
Claudia wrote on 2012-03-07 03:31
Well, I think they should belong in Rua's House simply because of the nature of the threads, not because I have an issue with it. By now I just tune out the religion threads partly because I don't want to get frustrated, and partly because I don't care.

The expired warnings and infractions also serve to let other staff members know of your previous behavior so they can better appropriate their decisions based on that. Obviously if someone for instance had a really bad habit of necro posting, and then did it again later, they would get an infraction based on past offenses rather than just a slap on the wrist as if it had been their first time. That sort of thing.
Though the total infractions were actually removed since they won't be needed anymore, and we're on a point system only now.

As you can see, we've also changed it up a bit so it's more clear what kind of infraction you're getting. We have three types based on the severity (and/or frequency) of your actions. Minor, Moderate, and Serious. The 3rd value there is the time that it will take before the points expire. The time they will last scales with the type of infraction.

If the infraction reminders must stay I'd at least like them moved down towards the bottom of the page.

We're changing to the Xenforo forum soon, so cosmetic changes will have to wait until you see what that looks like.

Something like that is a bit of a waste of time for Osay since its purely cosmetic and we'll be changing to Xenforo soon-ish anyways. I'm not sure where they'll be on Xenforo, but I do know that the entire ticketing system is entirely different.
edit: Wow, ninja'd.
