Someone in my grade thinks saying the F word that rhymes with maggot is okay, and that it simply means, "Annoying person". :gloom3:

Meh. The "F word that rhymes with maggot" used to mean a bundle of wood. Now it means something else. Who's to say it can't change meaning again?

No, it never simply meant a bundle of wood. It meant a bundle of wood that was used to burn homosexuals alive over it, simply because they were homosexuals. Therefore, by calling someone it, you're saying that they should be burned over a pile of sticks.

Even if someone means something different, the current and widely used definition of the "f word" is a bad one. So people should either get used to saying something else or not complain when they get scolded for using it.

Finding another word to use isn't that difficult.

Not sure about the truth of that, but my point was that words frequently change meaning. So
if the F word has in fact changed meaning then while it may be insensitive to use it to mean "annoying person", it might not be totally wrong.
Edit:

I agree. It's better not to use the word to mean "annoying person", but I don't think it's good to stubbornly hold onto meanings of words. I'm just trying to be open to the fact that the word could someday change meaning.

****** (1)
late 13c., "bundle of twigs bound up," from O.Fr. ***ot "bundle of sticks" (13c.), of uncertain origin, probably from It. ******to, dim. of V.L. *facus, from L. fascis "bundle of wood" (see fasces). Especially used for burning heretics (emblematic of this from 1550s), so that phrase fire and ****** was used to indicate "punishment of a heretic." Heretics who recanted were required to wear an embroidered figure of a ****** on their sleeve, as an emblem and reminder of what they deserved.

She does, and people are generally more politically correct in college than in high school.

I think we should all start using insults like poopface, fartface and dumby, this way we don't have to keep looking up the definitions.

This is so awkward.
I'm going to think of... "the F word"... 10 times longer now because someone said that and not the word itself.
I know there's a rule against it, I'm just sayin.
