This week in Osaka, 23 year-old Eriko Tashiro and her boyfriend Daigorou Umezaki, 31, were sentenced to prison for 13 and 14 years respectively. In Sept. 2010, both savagely beat Eriko's younger sister, Yuriko, to death.
The two regularly bullied and abused Yuriko. Both Eriko and her boyfriend were on welfare; but, teenage Yuriko had to get a part-time job to cover entertainment expenses, like buying a game console (news reports don't specify which).
On the day 17 year-old Yuriko was murdered at their home, her older sister and Umezaki became incensed after Yuriko didn't practice playing video games—she skipped her practice session, apparently. Other things that made them mad was that she didn't take out the trash. They beat Yuriko with brass knuckles, their fists, and a chair until she died.
A jury of their peers—a relatively new addition to the Japanese legal system, judged the two. The jury system was reintroduced (it existed before World War II) in hopes of making rulings fairer. Nothing about this, however, seems fair.

That's bizarre by any standards, regardless of where it happened.

I think im gunna be sick.
-seriously started gagging & my eyes started watering. This Has to be one of the saddest sickest things ive read about in a long time... killing your own family member because she skipped a practice session on some video game... beating the poor 17 year old to death with brass knuckles & a chair... so pain full. They deserve a longer jail time than that...

Anyone that kills another person should receive the same treatment in my opinion: torture and eventually death. It's only right for them to feel the pain they've dished out to others.

Well, let's hope these new inmates at least have to take the garbage out themselves now.

Yes, brutally beat to death the only person taking care of you and paying for your video game expenses.
This will end up on some tabloid saying "Video Game Addiction Kills".

That is fucked up. So it was basically slavery? She was forced to work for her older sister and her boyfriend to pay for gaming expenses, and what did she get out of it? A beating? A death? They deserve life in prison. Killing them wouldn't teach them anything, killing them wouldn't make them regret this horrible crime.
But only 13 and 14 years? Maybe it will at least break them of their violent gaming habit.

I am against that through.
Torture will bring a negative flow into the world. Kill them in a painless way as fast as you can.

Even if you keep them alive in prison, it doesn't mean they will ever regret what they did. If they do get any regret, it would be "We should have hid the body better" or "maybe make someone else take the blame"
And in the end, their existance will vanish after dead, their knowledge having been meaningless in this life.. That they live or not will not change how meaningless their existance was.

Why is it that these people who are super addicted to games to the point of dying at cybercafes and killing people never any good at them? Have you ever heard of any of these people doing well in any gaming tournaments?
Anyway, there's really not much for me to say about this story that isn't immediately obvious.

An eye for an eye is a beautiful thing.. except that some people refuse to just take the punishment they rightfully receive and strive for revenge themselves. Leading to an endless cycle of revenge.
It's sad. Though technically, we already live in a world that is an eye for an eye. Though our justice system is flawed as fuck.

I disagree with the Eye for an Eye justice.
I prefer Death for an Eye.
Do something against other people's universal rights, die by someone's hand in return.

this is terrible... while i do not personally agree with capital punishment, they deserve a much harsher sentence, this is not just First/Second degree murder, this is torture causing death...
