[Image: http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01496/Heidi-Crowter-1_1496611a.jpg]
Tearful Heidi Crowter has only just been told about the sexual and derogatory comments being made about an innocent picture of her online.
The 16-year-old has been the target of several other sick pages on Facebook bearing her image.
The photos of Heidi, from Coventry, as a toddler had been stolen from a website for a parents’ support group.
Horrified mum Liz and husband Steve have been bombarding Facebook to take down the sites and so far only one has been removed.
Liz, 45, said the internet trolls behind the posts had been using images of her daughter for months and Facebook had made no direct contact with her to resolve the issue.
Heidi’s pictures were taken from a local support group website, which Liz ran for about five years.
She said pages carrying Heidi’s image are still active despite Liz reporting the problem TWO WEEKS ago.
She said: “It’s almost like Faceless rather than Facebook, we have been repeatedly trying to take these distressing sites down and I have not once had a direct response.
“These trolls are cowardly, nasty people who should be punished for the damage they are doing to people with their comments.
“They have no right to take Heidi’s image and use it alongside these cruel sites. If you look at the lad who made those comments about Fabrice Muamba online, he was taken to court.
“Heidi has told me she is very upset by the sites and she turns her head away when we have them on the computer screen.â€
Some users on FJ are trying to support a 10k petition to shut down 9gag.
other than that, meh.

What a weird looking mongoloid.

9gag should be shut down regardless, it's a piece of shit.
Edit - Also, I've rarely seen that meme. I just want 9gag killed.

because that's totally relevant and a polite thing to say.

I never really cared much for the actual meme, although I did see an interesting analysis as to why counting to "potato" was remarkably intelligent.
However, trying to do anything about this probably won't end well. I can understand the parent's outrage - I would feel the same if my son/daughter was in a similar situation. But, it might just be adding fuel to the fire right now.
I hope it just dies down.

9gag going down doesn't stop a meme.
I'm glad she's attracting as much attention to herself as possible to get rid of the attention. Retard.

Eh... I wasn't even aware of this meme or who it was... until know, thanks to the making a huge deal out of it. Why can't people realize that memes are made to entertain, not offend people (even if they can be somewhat offensive). I remember "bad luck Brian" found out about his meme, and he was quite amused by it, happy that people got a chuckle out of it.

That person is stupid. The more you make a big deal out of it, the more blown up meme becomes. People here probably don't know about her until today when she made it to some kind of news, and some people decided to re-post news into some websites, like Mabination, for example.
I like how the news source put a picture of her as well, for more chance to make more memes, lol.

Memes like that are pretty dumb and pointless, but this is as-well unfortunately.

LOL.
It's her own fault for putting the image online

Yes. Let's punish nearly the entire Internet.

If you're even close to being right, your post should read:
Quote from Invalid;850165:
It's her mother's fault for putting the image online
But that still doesn't absolve the people who visited a support site for people with Down syndrome, and then put a caption with her image to post all over the web.
Frankly, if the mother is seeking public attention solely for going after the internet trolls, and not for a book deal or whatever else she may have in mind, then she is plainly naive. Honestly, I don't want anything to do with either side of this.
Before reading this article, I didn't know of the meme, 9gag, the girl or her mother. I couldn't care less about what happens to 9gag or the mother. The only one I feel sympathy for is the girl, as none of this is her fault in any way.

She must be new to the internet.
Everything gets made fun of in the internet no exceptions.

That's the point actually.
On the internet, racism, sexism, bigotry, hatred, and general assholeishness is the
status quo. Forget political correctness, the mask of anonymity pretty much throws most standards of civilized behavior out the window. Add to the fact that the primary demo is the 15-24 age group (high schoolers and college kids, a group that by and large, tends towards savagery to begin with - why do you think high school is pure hell for a large proportion of kids?) and you can see why a down's syndrome kid is going to get shit on.
And fact is, most parents who haven't grown up with the internet do not have a clue about how
evil people can be online.

I wouldn't really consider it
evil. It's more cowardly than anything.
Everyone seems to think they're hot shit on the Internet, when in reality they're still just little bitches hiding behind the mask of a bully.

I'm a little shocked at how insensitive most people posting are being to the girl, even though some of those posts were deleted.
