  That depends on the circumstances. For example, let's say you attempt to non-lethally stop the molestation, but the molester refuses to stop, and you end up having a fight in which you accidentally kill the molester. I'm not saying that that's definitely what happened in this particular case, but it is a very likely possibility.

  And yeah you an beat someone up without killing them but I assume you must be fairly trained to avoid injuring them heavily. Also in a mindset of pure rage restraint is not the first thing that comes to mind.

  Would be useful but we don't know what he was like before, maybe he wasn't an angry person so anger management wasn't considered but this just pushed him over the edge.

  I'm saying he should have been able to control himself. Sure, he was in a fit of uncontrollable rage, but he should never have been in that fit to begin with. His main priority shifted from protecting his daughter to killing the man. Also, if he never needed anger management to begin with then I'm sure he wouldn't have gone over the edge to beat the guy to death. There's also the fact that you could be in need of anger management help and never take it.

  1.) All well and good if this was identified earlier, his predisposition to murderous rage when someone molests his daughter. 2.) Don't think his intent was more MUST KILL, I think it was MUST REMOVE THREAT. But we're not him and have never been in his state of mind so we wouldn't know what he was thinking. 3.) You never know, you've heard the saying don't mess with the nice ones right? Some of them can get scary when they're angry. 4.) Again can't comment as we don't know the man.

  All of the evidence on the table (witnesses, police reports, etc.) paint a very clear picture. A man molests a 4-year old girl and is confronted by her father. There is a fight, though it's unclear if it was one-sided, and the molester dies. We don't know if the father intended to kill him or not or if it was unavoidable. We're certainly not just taking his word for it.
  
  What people in the thread are saying is that they would do the same thing. This may not be perfect, but it's honest. Also, how would you prefer your murders to be done? Since fists are too barbaric, what's an appropriate method for 2012?

  Though that's the general problem here. We don't know the man, so we're making assumptions here. This entire time I haven't been saying, "Oh, you could have restrained yourself but you killed a man, you're a terrible person." Rather I've been saying that he should have showed some self control. Unless we get the entire story out of this, we can't properly judge this situation aside from viewing it as a man killing another man for molesting their daughter.

  IF the guy was truly molesting the girl, then fuck him, the father would have reacted to instincts, but once the man was under submission he could have stopped and waited for the police.
