Too tired to answer but I'm thinking if you don't cooperate well your team mates can mess you up and do stupid **** that'll get you killed. Like improper use of traps.

4pp has some good opinions, but they're not god.
I disagree with much of what they have to say.

Their opinions are horrible when it comes to FPSes
but they know their thing with RPGs

Oh, and Brad is seriously sucking ass at the game.
And seriously, he whined so much in Silent Hill 4. He whined a LOT.

you must as well use a giant sword as there's no real directional control for attacks

You might as well use a SMALL sword since theres no directional control for attacks.
That way you can stop and change your direction much faster instead of waiting 3 seconds to recover from a missed swing.
The sword Brad used is mostly for boss fights only.

Pi pikachu pi pika pi. pi pika. pi pika, pikachu.
(I'm now looking for people to add to my friends list to hunt with. Currently HR 8 (Freaking capped for no reason, trying to figure out if I'm missing any quests).
Oh yeah, I also am stuck at Village quest fighting Barroth solo. It pisses me off how Great Swords are not very effective weapons against a Giant Rock Wyvern that spams the same annoying technique over and over (Run back a little, then really fast ram).)

Try a Switch axe or a Long sword?

I've been playing this thing non-stop since release day and LOVING it so far (first time MHer too). Feel free to add me for some online play, guys.
IGN: Arrionso
ID: QLJPTW
HR:10
And Pika, you need to complete the urgent quest to have your HR unlocked. I think it's called "Leading the Charge." Basically the online version of the Barroth Hunt (your favorite monster).
As for the question about the Switch Axe: It's awesome.
That's the only weapon I really know my way around so far and I love how versatile it can be. The sword mode in particular is just amazing with it's quick and powerful slashes as well as the elemental discharge. The axe isn't as amazing but it has some nice moves as well such as the upward swing that can make most monsters stagger if it hits right.
And for online play: It's perfect. No fumbling with friend codes or connection issues. And joining parties is as simple and straightforward as it can be. Be it with random people or friends, it really adds to the game as a whole. There's just something about tackling giant beasts with buddies that make the whole experience so addictive and rewarding.
...how about some Nation Group Hunts? :D

Thank you.
My beloved Dual Swords and Gunlance are gone so it's good to see I'll have a new favorite.
I'll add you if I ever get the game. I'll attempt obtaining it tomorrow.

Pi pikachu. Pi pika pi.
(Pika's HR 12 now and is spamming Gobul hunts. Pika must get beloved Long Sword!!)
Pi pikachu pi pika. Pika pi.
(Pika will check Pika's code later, but Pika's current goal is to rank up so Pika can fight Jhen Mohran. It must die for replacing beloved lao shan and so Pika can obtain Samurai Armor (It's armor sorta looks like Samurai Armor).)
