does this belong in questions?? or is this more of a discussion.. i dont know xD
well. its like this. i have a rare sewing pattern.
anyways. i've asked my friend A to make it for me. here's a story of my friend B with her past experience with friend A. she had a karis pattern and asked friend A's friend to make it. friend A and his friend gathered mats themselves. she gave a karis to friend A for helping with the mats cuz he kinda kept asking her for one. at the time the friend that made it also had another karis pattern he was working on as well.
now... the friend A. i wonder why he was willing to gather mats for my friend B's karis, and why he wont gather mats for my pattern?? i already told him i was gonna give him one free if he made it. ( o i c now karis mats dont involve leathers o.o )
since friend A is a friend and all, plus im giving him a free thing he'll make, shouldn't that mean he should chip in with some mats?? or am i supposed to absolutely gather everything?? im not dissin my friend or anything at all. i love this guy xD but i dont know what's fair and all when it comes to asking someone to make something for me. this item is more valuable than karis i think...
what do you guys do when you ask those pro blacksmiths to make something for you?? like i know if you dont know them you gotta provide all mats, and a little tip right??
i just dont know whats a fair give and take, considering this is kind of really rare, and he is my friend, and ill be giving him one.
he estimated mat costs to be 2 millish if bought?? to complete all of them. but i dont have any money right now OMG. i have literraly like 200k in the bank and like what 30k on me?? i've spent too much money on wood boards. that's why i need to have these made and sold xd
my other friend told me that it seems kinda one sided if he doesnt help with the mats, because the total cost in mats for all of them is way less than what the item itself is worth.
where is a good place to hunt for fine leathers dammit >3< i need a kajillion bajillion mats~ *dies.
im starting to not want these made. xDD i get like 3 or something leathers per castle run.... and math doesnt give that many fines either i dont think..
anyways my question is what is proper etiquette when it comes to these requests?? what should he provide and what should i provide??
also!! should he be getting the last item he makes?? i have a feeling he wont be doing this all at once since i suck at collecting massive amounts of stuff.

personally, if i'm doing tailoring service for someone (not that i do it often, my rank isn't extremely high -- only r6) i'll do it completely for free if they provide me the mats and pattern. i'm sure this is probably different for tailors of a higher rank, though. :V

well but i told him id give him one item he makes for making them for me. he's not that high~ he's rank 7 rushing to 6 to try to get a better chance of success for this. he's also a friend, so......
the item itself is worth like 8-9 mil i think.. and the total cost of making all of them he said is around 2 mil.

Hmm I dunno, I'm trying to see if a friend of mine will finish some Valencia (Giant) for me, he says he has a few (since he's ranking blacksmithing) and he might finish it for me if i get him the reqiured materials. But yeah, I think if you ask someone to make something for you, you have to establish who gets what. Like you supply the Pattern/whatever and the finishing materials and the other gets the materials, or vica versa.

I'm assuming that if Rank 7 isn't high enough for a good success rate, and you need Fine Leathers, then you found a Vito Crux pattern from the Giant Gator.
I'd estimate that it'd cost around 300k to make each one, assuming no fails [1.5mil total]. If you're giving him one free, he should be willing to chip in a good deal of materials, since the finished product is easily worth 10x or more.
If he's really stuck on not providing some mats, you could always find another tailor (higher rank would be good) and say that it's nothing personal, just business. It makes even more sense since you don't have the cash for the mats, and another person with a higher success might be willing to provide some. Heck, some people might even offer to provide much more than half, given the rarity of this thing.

if you did find a vito, dont let a -r5 tailor burn up the pattern XD

Rank 6 is good enough, higher only adds 1-2% per rank. Though, if you can find a higher rank person, every little bit helps.
If you really have trouble getting the mats, insist that he should provide some of it or just find somebody else.

1-2%? try
16% difference for same rank vs. one rank higher. seriously, have you even touched tailoring before? skill rank vs. manual rank makes a huge difference.

I said Rank 6 was good enough because the pattern is Rank 6.
Rank 6 = 70%
Rank 5 = 71% (+1%)
Rank 4 = 72% (+1%)
...
Rank 1 = 79%

aha, there's the problem. for some reason, i was under the impression that vito crux was an r5 pattern, i've never actually seen one on my server. sorry for the misunderstanding!

only needs fine fabric and fine leather, with the chest even coming up you can get full stacks of each form normale chests, so hunt keys if leather hunting wont work for you

I can make it for you, if you want. I'm r4 and happen to have more fine leather than I know what to do with.
If it makes you feel better, I can help with the mats and you can still give the free one to him.

No vito pattern has dropped on Alexina. Sadly for the amount of times we have killed that gator.

As to the original question...
I tailor (r5, highest on my server is only r3). When it was something I could get skill gain from, I would do it for free if the requester provided all materials, including pattern. If a guildy or close friend asks me for something, I will make it for ~cost (round to nearest round number -- example, I made a guildy a BBF hat this week for 100k, using my mats) or free if they provide mats.
When a complete stranger asks me to tailor something for them, I charge so as to make a profit. Examples might be a Selina SBL for 600-700k, or a Stitched Long Robe Armor for 1.2-1.5M, both of which are probably twice what it costs me to make them. This is using my materials of course, and the price varies by the result.
When I craft items for a rare pattern, this is the method I use (and pay others the same): The crafter gets one of the item made, and the requester supplies all materials. By using a high-rank crafter, you may get more finished items than if you used your lower-rank friend/self. They deserve payment for making the items -- ranking tailoring or blacksmithing to the top ranks is NOT CHEAP. And right now there are very few patterns above rank 6 that are worth making which is why most people stop at rank 5.
So, IMHO, you should gather all the materials (or buy them from your tailor friend on credit if he has them) and give him a suit for making them for you. Or, better yet, find someone who is rank 5+ and get them to do it, if they are reputable.
And yes, so far no Vito Crux Armor, Coy Quilt, or Becky Witch patterns form gator or lion on Alexina. The first Vito Crux gloves or greaves pattern just dropped recently, I have not seen any made yet though. The only VC armor on Alexina is synth, and the ones I've seen were only 3 defense.
