If Tarlokk was an Equalist in disguise, then the writers would be bullshitting us when Tarlokk became pissed after Korra pointed out that he's just like Amon
so the cat doesn't think that's the case
Also, remember that Korra was cut by one of the icicle. maybe that's why he could bloodbend
if not then he's bending the rules - Stand up comedy Amon
anyways think this episode is the start of a rollercoaster. Korra and her friends are being detained
leading up to some serious events against the benders in Republic City

Hmm...You're right. But then why would he be so foolish as to do everything Amon wants him to do?
He's attacking innocent non-benders and claiming everyone to be an Equalist. He also doesn't want the help of the avatar...superiority issue?
Anyway I don't think the cut would have anything to do with it. I mean what would he do with blood outside the body that he couldn't do with blood inside the body? Either way he would of been able to bend it...he could of done it from the start but he did do it as a last-ditch effort to save his own hide which has lead me to believe now that he is indeed. *Amon Standup comedy Image here* Bending the rules. (That or he really has learned a new way to do it.)
Tarlokk is only proving Amons point now by persecuting non-benders which can only bolster the Eqaulist movement.
Tarlokk also seems to have a hold on the other two Council members...wonder what's going on there.
Anyway I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. The only people who make any sense in dealing with the Issues are Korra's gang, Tenzin, and Bei Fong.

obviously his bloodbending has to do with scaring the councilmen and everyone under him
just that he's smart enough to hide from Tenzin

Hmm...well I had figured that as well but I had wanted to shove it aside in the oddball case he has something else to hold over them. Oh well...now the dreaded wait until next week. At least I'll be able to see TOM on TV tonight.

However they deal with it, I'm personally excited to see bloodbending introduced into this. I thought it was a concept that they didn't really do enough with in the original series.
Best three seconds of the entire episode were during Korra's vision. So much happened in such a small amount of time!
You can clearly see Tarrlok secretly using blood bending on several of the old crew. I have a feeling that he is directly tied to Aang's death.
Also, what if Tarrlok is Amon? I feel like that would explain why he was so mad when she drew the line between the two.

as explained before, the writers would be bullshitting us hard if they did something stupid like that
hell it would be worse than Bleach's level of BS
Also, he wasn't the one in the flashback
this individual Yakone was the criminal Avatar Aang was against
and the one who bloodbended everyone in the room
With the visions, Avatar Aang might be suggesting to Korra that Tarlok is related to Yakone
at this point, maybe Yakone's son. (there is a 40ish year difference, enough for Tarlok to grow up)
Edit:
this guy made the best theory ever (still some big flaws)
spoilers though
Tarlok mentioned Yakone as the person who Avatar Aang stood up against in episode 4 (before she had those visions)
he was only mentioned
That...that Theory.
That's well put together and overall entirely possible but I do see the big flaws you were referring to.

This episode had some pretty intense moments. And that twist!
That theory looks really interesting, too, and I can see how it could work, after all, they're all bound to have grown as benders, and that includes someone key to the theory.
