  I've had the same Wacom Bamboo FUN tablet for the past... 5 years or so. At least. It's still perfectly functioning (with very frequent use), and it was only $100. However, compared to $500+ tablets, its pressure ranges leave something to be desired.

  It's basically between the bamboo and the intuos, and intuos is super expensive.
  
  I had the bamboo fun in blue, and it worked great. The surface lost the papery texture and became shiny because I used it so much. I spilled acetone on it though, so the paint got all messed up, and looking at it gave me goosebumps and just plain freaked me out, so I bought a new bamboo capture, which is so nice and sleek.

  Bamboo, definitely. Cheap, affordable, and performs excellently. The only problem I have is that I read that the newer ones have a slightly more rougher surface which grinds down the tip of your pen with use, and requires you to replace one with prolonged use. Each one costs 15 dollars and is expected to be replaced every 3 to 12 months depending on the amount of use you put into it.
  
  Some people actually use very fine sand paper to soften the surface of the tablet, but this can be potentially harmful if done wrong and definitely voids any warranty on the device.
  
  My old Graphire 4 doesn't have this problem, but it is a pretty outdated model. I got it for 60 dollars and it still works fantastic today. I've tried the really expensive intuos and while they do boast a bit of quality it really wasn't anything that I was going to be able benefit from anyways, nor is it significantly noticeable in the first place. They have like twice as much pressure sensitivity, but come on... Bamboo have 1024 levels of sensitivity. Why would you really ever want more? Considered the Gaphire 3 actually had the same hardware as the first model of Bamboo, I won't be surprised if my Graphire 4 isn't too much worse than the newer models of Bamboo. (They don't sell the nice and cheap graphires anymore because they can sell their Bamboo with a bunch of useless added feature for more money)
  
  I mean, I've been tempted to buy newer versions but after doing several comparisons, I've found there is really no reason to update until this current device literally stops working.
  
  My suggestion is to get the Capture model of Bamboo. Its 20 dollars more expensive than Splash/Connect, but comes with additional allocatable buttons which can be incredibly helpful and fast. Ignore the product descriptions of what tiers of artistry you'd want to be and what you want to do with each type of tablet, its bullshit. And forget the Create, its just a larger version and from my experience the only thing a larger tablet accomplishes is making your work space even harder to manage.

  Pressure sensitivity can be important in tablets because it makes it easier to paint. It makes all your pen strokes more...valuable, let's say. You can get a lot more variety with good pressure sensitivity than you can without. Pressure sensitivity generally affects two things: thickness and opacity on a brush. A lot of tablets are also made to respond to the pen's tilt. With mine, I can do things like this with one stroke:

  Started out lightly at the edges and pressed harder in the middle, then went to a lighter touch again. The brush gets ticker and darker when I press, and lighter and thinner when I let go.
  
  Pressure sensitivity can affect how well you blend. Though it's possible to blend without it, having good pressure sensitivity makes it a lot easier.
  This is a water brush where I start by pressing a bit more, then ease up near the end.

  A good chunk of the people I know have either an Intuos 3 or Intuos 4, and they haven't complained about them. They're more expensive than the bamboo, though. Definitely something you get only if you want to commit.

  And the acetone just made it really ugly. I have this fear of like, many small dots, or really gross thin lines. Idk. Some patterns just disgust me.

  The entire switch from Gaphire to Bamboo was one big money scheme. The specs were identical, but the Bamboo was the newer model that just looked more modern and sleek and cost 20 dollars more. And now they dont sell Graphires anymore.

  I recommend getting the Wacom Bamboo line of tablets for beginners because of the lower price cost compared to Intuos.
  
  Pressure points are less of a concern for beginners.
  
  I have Bamboo Create - it has a larger drawing surface compared to the Intuos small (8.5" x 5.4" vs. 6.2" x 3.9")
