  E.V.O: Search for Eden (Really neat game where you play as an evolving creature that goes through the different periods of the prehistoric era)
  
  PS1:
  Xenogears
  Chrono Cross
  Super Robot Taisen Alpha Gaiden (has a full English patch, it's a strategy game involving popular giant robot anime series, this is one of the few of the series that are translated. But it's the best one of the PS1 era. Expect lots of neat animations and crazy crossover stuff if you know the series used.)

  Is barely a jRPG too, more like a wRPG, it has some metroidvania vibe to it too (as in map exploration, visiting past places after obtaining something, and those being optional)
  Great combat system, challenging at times, have to use proper weaponry with proper affinities, classes, etc. Proper use of magic is a must to survive.
