Was watching some live blogs covering the event. Really pumped for it. A lot of interesting new designs and features. Definately am looking at getting the new iPod touch. Here's a quick story about it.
Apple officially announces iPhone 5.
After months of rampant rumors and hype, Apple debuted its latest smartphone Wednesday in front of a packed house at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, claiming it is the world’s thinnest.
The iPhone 5 features a larger screen and weighs 112 grams, or about 4 ounces, which is 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S. It is also 18% thinner, Apple's marketing chief Phil Schiller said. It has an improved A6 processor that is twice as fast as its predecessor, high-speed 4G LTE connectivity and a widescreen aspect ratio.
Apple has also improved the device's battery life and updated both of its cameras, giving its front camera 720p HD video. The company also announced a smaller dock connector for the device and a new cable charger named Lightning that is 80% smaller than its predecessor.
Siri got a makeover as well, and can now tell users the scores of sports games and post status updates to Facebook.
The iPhone 5's dock connector has also been made smaller.
The device will be available in black and white. It will be available for $199, $299 and $399 for 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models, respectively. Pre-orders begin Friday and the iPhone 5 will launch Sept. 21.
The company said iOS 6 will arrive as an update for many of its iOS devices Sept. 19.
The invitation-only Apple event, which began at 10 a.m. Pacific time, is still ongoing. Cook is expected to announce upgrades to other products, including the iPod, soon, so check back for updates.

The launch of a new iPhone will mean huge sales for the Cupertino, Calif., tech giant.
Since the original iPhone debuted in 2007, Apple has sold more than 244 million units and has been credited with upending the smartphone industry.
Sales of iPhones and related products and services accounted for 46% of Apple’s revenue in the most recent quarter and 58% in the previous quarter. In its last fiscal year, the company reported revenue of $47.1 billion from sales of iPhones and related product and services, an 87% increase over the year before.
Analysts estimate the iPhone has a gross margin of about 50%, making it an extremely profitable device for the world's most valuable company. Nearly two-thirds of Apple's profits come from the iPhone.
With sales of Apple's iPhone 4S and earlier models dropping off in recent months, analysts believe there is huge pent-up demand for the iPhone 5. Many have predicted that Apple could sell up to 10 million iPhones in the first 10 days, and up to 50 million in the holiday quarter.

iPod News:
Apple’s iPod touch and iPod nano received some much-needed remixes on Wednesday alongside the introduction of the eagerly anticipated iPhone 5.
While the iPhone 5 has all the hype, the changes to the iPod set are far from incremental. The new fifth-generation iPod Touch moves up from a 3.5-inch display seen on previous models to the same 4-inch, 1136 x 640-pixel Retina display found on the iPhone 5. That’s not exactly proper HD resolution (that’d be 1,280 x 720 or higher), but the new iPod touch’s camera is getting a boost to a 5-megapixel “iSight†shooter out back that can record up to 1080p, full-HD video.
On the inside, the Touch gets Apple’s A5 dual-core chipset, which makes the new model the first two-core iPod Touch to see the light of day. Apple is promising that the A5 chip will make the iPod Touch up to seven times faster than the outgoing A4-powered model, meaning this should be one hell of a mobile gaming platform, especially given the larger screen.
And make no mistake, Apple knows that the iPod touch will get heavy use as a replacement for point-and-shoot cameras. Each iPod touch ships with its own “loop†wristband that will prevent the device from falling if ever it slips out of your hands.
Apple is improving productivity on the iPod touch, as well, by shipping it with iOS 6, the latest version of its mobile operating system, and by including Siri, the voice-activated assistant app previously confined to the iPhone 4S. The new iPod touch is also thinner and lighter than before, coming in at 6 millimeters thick and weighing 88 grams, or just 3.1 ounces.
And the iPod Touch a no longer a simple chrome-backed iPhone clone. It now gets a distinctive-brushed aluminum unibody chassis and comes in different anodized colors — blue, yellow, red or silver — each with white faceplates. There’s also a blacked-out model. And Apple has coordinated the colors to the accompanying iPod touch loops. Sir Jony Ive wouldn’t want us clashing, right?
Pre-orders for the new iPod touch start on Sept. 14 and ship sometime in October at a price of $299 for 32GB of storage and $399 for 64GB of storage. We should note that the 64GB iPod touch is selling for the same price as an iPad 2. “Cheap†is not the first word that comes to mind here.

Well personally, I don't mind the price as compared to other music players, they're all complete shit compared to the ipod touch. At least in my opinion. I'm going to get the blue 32GB one and the Earpods I'll really enjoy as I won't have to fiddle with the touch screen when I'm riding my bike and want to skip to the next song.
This is really big news for my company as we do a lot of mobile stuff and need to keep up to date on this stuff. Plus the company I work for is very pro apple as they all use Mac's, iphones, and ipads.
Thoughts?

Launch Date is September 21st as rumors prior to the event had already speculated. Most of what Apple reveled to be exactly what rumors had predicted. Apple can't keep things as secret as they'd like them to be.
My contract with T-mobile ends next year so I'll be waiting on the iPhone until then at the very least. I do want the iPod Touch though. That much I do know. I take a lot of photos with my current iPod and frankly the pictures stink. I hope the new iPod does a much better job at it. That's what I like the most about it. The other stuff are mere bonus'
One other thing to note that isn't mentioned in either of those articles. Apple is ditching google maps and is instead using their own homebrewed map software which doesn't have Google's awesome streetview because they simple aren't as awesome as Google driving around the globe in their street view cars *cough*
Also, Youtube App will not be shipping with the iPhone 5. You will have to get Google's Youtube App from the App Store which I would assume is free knowing how kind Google is unlike a certain company *cough*
Sorry, had to have my Apple stabbing fun :P

I already have an ipod touch, which I only use for music anyways.
Hopefully I can make the iPhone my new music player, but who knows.

I watched it at work, I wasn't impressed at all with the iphone. I was actually waiting for this event to see if apple could convince me to get an iphone. I'll be going android. Samsung most likely :D

The biggest disadvantages that the new iPhone has is:
1) Inferior Map Software compared to Google's which has Street View AND Walking/Transit directions which Apple Maps does not have. (FU Apple, I need Public Transit and Walking)
2) Expensive Adapter to use old adapters ($29.99, YIKES!) Not an issue for me as I don't have all these fancy expensive accessories and frankly can do without.
I think those are my two biggest gripes about the new iPhone and I'm sure a lot of people share these 2 concerns as well.
On the upside, iOS6 looks to be VERY promising and will be a nice upgrade to my existing iPad2 and iPod Touch. I'll finally be able to experience Siri and the mobile photo upload will be very welcome without the stupid process of emailing to myself.

I don't consider myself an Apple Hater or Fan for that matter. I look at the things that I find to be useful and beneficial while responding negatively to the things I find to be worthless and troublesome. It all comes down to how much you are willing to pay. Only reason why I'm willing to pay a lot for the iPod Touch is quality, semi-decent camera, music player, and app/internet surfing all on one. It's quite powerful and portable so I find the price to be justifiable considering the competition which is pretty much zilch.
Sorry, but the Android just doesn't meet my music needs at all. Need quick and easy sync which so far, only iTunes has proven itself to be great at that. Google Music is great and all but not so great when it's a pain in the rear to tell it to keep all the music on the device and streaming music on the go via my shitty T-mobile network just ain't cutting it.

Yeah, same here.
Don't really like the Macs, but I do like their iPods/iPhones.
Only reason I don't really look into other phones is because I know for sure 100% that iPhone 5 will run very smoothly, and all those apps man.

I'll keep my Razr Maxx. I love android too much!
I surprised to see the price that cheap, honestly. But all these people selling their old iphones to get the 5 are just... (facepalm).

Yeah I'm glad they aren't super high, and I'm going to start a new contract too... so woo

ughugu I want
it has 4G so I can get the everything unlimited plan from mobilicity for $25/month with no contract instead of my $40/month 250MB plan from Koodo. Also what do you mean no transit map? It has a perfectly fine transit function. It's all I use right now and I doubt the new one would have things taken away.

Okami likes it big and with lots of endurance!
*flee*
I'm not touching any of that iStuff because it requires the POS known as iTunes and QuickTime. I'm not tainting my computer with that crap. D: The devices themselves look pretty sleek, to be sure, but that's all they have going for them as far as I'm concerned. If I had to get a new smartphone, I'd probably go for that new Motorola Razr, or one of the Google-branded phones. I'm also keeping an eye on Nokia's upcoming Windows 8 powered stuff, as well as RIM's upcoming QNX powered BlackBerries.

I'm guessing yours is using Google Maps. Apple took it out in their latest OS and integrated their own, crappy version instead. You could still use the web version of Google Maps, though.

Glad they got rid of that awful insta-scrathing chrome on the iPod Touch.
Only major thing for me is that when I got this iPod Touch 4, Apple's adverts said it had a 5MP camera, unless I'm mistaken, or there was some mistake over at Apple, as it's a 0.7 MP Camera...
In any case I probably won't be getting another one, because I basically have some kinda love hate relationship with this one (so-so preformance/lag). And there are only about 6 games (excluding ports (including Flash Game Clones) that are worth any amount of time on iOS.
