[COMPLETE] My latest project

This is an archive of the mabination.com forums which were active from 2010 to 2018. I need a lab to test things and to study with, so I decided to build one.
It's going to be a vmware based virtual environment, the physical hardware will be in a 12U server rack.

The physical hardware is this:

1x 12U rack

2x 1U servers each with 32 GB RAM, 1 Xeon E3-1230 v2, 2 network interfaces and a 4GB USB key to install vmware ESXi hypervisor.

1x 4U storage array, which will run openfiler as the OS to let me make an iSCSI SAN. It'll have a RAID5 of 7x 1TB +1 hot spare. Total capacity of 12 hot swap HDD but I'm only putting in 8 for now.

1x Watchguard x750e router. It's off market for about 2 years as of this coming december but it's still a damned good router. it has 8 interfaces of 1 gig each, and I got it for a steal on ebay (brand new).

1x 24 port gigabit switch

1x PDU (basically a power bar for racks)

my ISP modem and my current wifi access point will be pout in there as well to keep stuff neat.

Both ESXi hosts will be clustered together and managed with vmware vsphere.

Getting all the parts delivered around mid october :skip:

My teacher got a similar setup going for our computer networking class a few years ago. It was I think 99^% routers 1% old as nails server rom the back closet.

We did learn a lot messing with it though.
