  I think the 7970 is more powerful, but the 660 is more for your money? I don't know, but getting a high end gpu now is pointless, since no games can utilize it.

  I am going to have to suggest against a Coolermaster PSU. They rarely use high-end internals on their power supplies. (Superflower, Seasonic, or Enermax) As such they have lower reliability than many other brands, statistically speaking. Quality of a PSU is more important than the listed wattage.
  
  
  OP: the minimum sized SSD I would recommend for an OS would be 60/64GB. When it comes to an SSD, the important thing is to get a quality one, which generally means right now Intel, Samsung, or Crucial, of which Samsung SSDs tend to be the best overall.

  I am not an AMD fan, I am a price / performance and ethics fan. VIA has nothing even close to Intel's performance, and AMD hold a mathmatical price / performance advantage while at least not being bottlenecked by most GPUs.

  The main difference is I recommend a higher end GPU for higher performance in modern AAA titles and future games, a more reliable power supply, and a cheaper but just as effective case and motherboard.

  Well, seeing as I forgot to add case cost, mine would end up going over $1k, but not by much.
  I would try changing a few more things, but newegg won't load :P
  Evaris' first suggested build isn't actually including monitor cost, but it pretty much includes everything else. Her first build is almost the same price as mine, I just forgot the case. Should let someone else decide, or we'll probably end up just saying "mine, mine!" xD Though it does seem some parts of Evaris' build are better, but other parts are better in mine...(such as the CoolerMaster PSU in mine, I didn't actually know they weren't that great with power supplies).
  
  Combine the best of all builds :) (and I'd rather someone who knows more than I ever would, to help with that :P)

  Err, what do you mean? An AMD FX-4120 is about 75% as fast as a stock SB i5 in pure compute power. (performance of course varies on the application)
