Well not terrible enough obviously or he wouldn't maintain master/grandmaster on the ladder? I'm not saying he's good or anything but seriously he's in the top 2%
Well thats true. I think he's good but to be fair you're not gonna make big bux if you're not code S tournament winners.
Destiny titles himself more towards "professional streamer" than a "professional gamer" so thats where his income is at anyways.
He's the one with the figures, and he knows he needed a drastic change. Half a year ago he was consistently getting 5000+ viewers at all times. Now he is barely breaking 1000, even with Heart of the Swarm beta which was supposed to be a big thing. SC2 just doesn't garner the audience it used to have. You can see this even in Day9 stream view counts or other Team Liquid streams.
DJWheat's excuse is that the viewers are now just being given more options and as a result are being spread out, but there aren't less viewers. But then thats exactly why someone trying to make a living should focus their attention towards the more successful venue.
Twitch TV as of right now at the time of this post:
League of Legends (no events at the moment)
16,110 Viewers
World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria
7,401 Viewers
Diablo III
3,819 Viewers
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty (two events)
2,999 Viewers
Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus (one event)
2,116 Viewers
Dota 2
1,804 Viewers
Speaks for itself really. SC2 currently has IPL and ESEA going on and even then its being outright overshadowed by League of Legends, which is all personal streams.
Minigun, a top grand master protoss, is a successful player. He is currently getting less than 200 views, which isn't enough ad revenue to even pay for food. This means if he wants to make a living, he
has to win tournaments and get sponsorships. This wasn't the case a few months ago. Players could literally stream for a living.
So if you want to be a professional gamer, but you don't expect tournament winning results, then you stream for yourself where you can get those views. Right now, League is the answer.
Edit:
The day he realized he could stream for a living

Its actually incredibly depressing to watch him get so excited because of how depressed he tends to be now.
