I don't trust all of those people saying that Vella is completely different from sword Lann. My main is a sword Lann, and I tried out Vella. "I appreciate Lann more"? Seriously? In a game like this, the definition of DPS is HITTING. Vella is easily adjusted to "output" damage like sword Lann, because their attacks are more similar than people imagine it NOT to be. The only real difference between them is how they "dodge". Gimmick attacks do not count. Initially, Vella already has more speed and range (miraculously) compared to sword Lann, and their damages are pretty much even, thanks to Vella's multi-hit smashes. Give her the additional basic stats throughout levelling, gaining titles, and equipments, and Vella wins.
And now... Twin Swords on chains? Although it has become a more commonplace choice of weapons (God of War, S4 League, Ninja Assassin, etc) as of late, this is not what this game needs. Might as well give Lann a third weapon choice of Zanbato or something, make him follow after Keaghan. Maybe it's too soon to say anything. Still, with this, I'm thinking maybe Fiona needs some new advantageous gimmicks, like maybe being able to walk while guarding, small shields only.
Have they done this, just to compensate for Kai's bullshit that they obviously regret releasing?

Then just play Vella I guess.
As things are, Vella and Lann are made to do different things. They're not supposed to be directly competing with each other in the same categories (solo, sandbag DPS, etc).

With this type of game, the different characters can't actually do different things without substantial gimmicks. The only exception being staff Evie healing, everyone is attacking. "As things are", Vella was made to do it better than Lann, whether they wanted it or not. Then again, they pretty much had it like that to begin with. This is just a cruel reminder. Still, I'd rather not instantly drop my hard work, sweat, and blood, just to pose as a girl.

Jin, I have just one question for you and that's. . .have you played Vella to end-game?

From a strictly "just attacking" standpoint, Lann is the best character in the game except maybe a glitched out Kai that's really mashing those buttons.

Technically, I don't have any character at endgame, because I don't have the resources. Still, I don't base my insight solely on my experience alone. Still, I wouldn't believe every word that people say.
"From a strictly just attacking standpoint" is a very bad way to view this. Besides, I believe that hammer Fiona would win that. Well... not anymore, actually. crossgun Kai may overpower in that term, until nerf.

Hammer Fiona was never better than Kai/Lann when talking about just attacking.
And if we're not talking about strictly attacking, then it's appropriate to note that Vella is made for doing things differently rather than just strictly attacking. Because strictly attacking, Lann does more DPS than Vella if they both go all out on a boss that isn't fighting back assuming they have equivalent gear. Does that mean she's a worse attacker just because she's a weaker attacker? Not really, just that she's a different type of attacker that reaches her goals in another manner. So she ends up better than Lann at some things (soloing) and worse at others (sandbag DPS/party play to some extent).
If you don't believe me... all I can really do is throw charts and numbers at you.
Here's the percentiles if you want to screw around with that, but it might not even be up to date.
The argument that characters that attack a lot are better is just wrong. As a Lann player, you must know that Thousand Needles is a horrible attack and Gliding Fury/Lightning Fury is an excellent one, despite only hitting once each. And if hitting a lot had anything to do with anything, spinning would be better DPS than going for quick crits and spamming Gliding Fury. It isn't.

Lann and Fiona should at least have their animations redone.
I'm fine with lanns everything besides how lack luster his animations are.
Needs more flashy lightning. and stuff like that.

I honestly cant see a weapon like that having much application to raids.
