Quote from Mythical Detective Loki X;1013143:
It sounds like you would rather copy others style than develop your own.
And if you really want me to find two artists and get you to determine who drew them...

[/SPOILER]
Dunno who drew them but they look different enough to not be the same person. If it's the same person, their skill improved inbetwen the time frame of which these two were made. The second picture has deeper lines and the light details are more pushed than the first one. The amount of details torward clothing is more advance in the second picture and the way the eyes are drawn differ greatly. The one who drew the first picture seem to have a preferance for longuer feet than the artist of the second picture. Oddly both nose seem drawn in a similar way even if the type of nose is different.
As for whenever I am trying to copy or not. They say there is nothing left as original in the world anymore. Everything is a reflection of things done in the past, hence everything has copied the past to some extend. I will probably not achieve the exact same style than the artist I look up to, But if I can get close to the details I loved about her art, than I'll be happy. This slightly different but close to her style will become my own style. Heck, you could even say "anime style" is just a copy of the first one, but even so, they slightly differ from one another. Isn't even jsut learning technicly coping what people are teaching you, making a copy of the knowledge for yourself?
Overtime I may even change the style I am trying to do a little and head in a different direction.
Anyway in short, I don't think of mimicking as a negative thing but more as a positive way to learn things.
