Is it me or are all the videos showing humans? I started playing Mabi 1 about 3 or 4 years ago because it was the only game I had ever seen that had giants that were ACTUALLY GIANT, and not just a little taller than most, so I have to say that if Mabi2 doesn't have giants I'm not sure they are going to be able to keep my attention...
What are your thoughts?
If Mabi2 is only human will you play?

I think I would try it regardless, if it catches my attention. I'm not really that mindful about the races in most games...
As far as I know, it's extremely different than the current Mabinogi, so I dunno. Races aren't the things that keep me from playing a game or not.

I hear that. like I just said in another thread

All Devcat had to do was take the existing game, pretty up the graphics, add stuff, change the map, maybe add another race, write a new story, and fix a lot of the stuff that use to annoy the majority of the players, and they would have had a solid sequel...
Don't get me wrong I do enjoy the combat in mabi, but at its center the game is about Exploration, and life skills, just give us what we already love..
If they are making a an altogether different game, then why even call it Mabinogi?...

I don't mind honestly, especially since I think some games go overboard with the races.

If it is anything like Vindictus, I don't really want to play it. Right now, it is looks like it is heading to there.

Developers of MMOs tend to change things drastically for some reason, probably so they try new ideas instead of old ones. Those who played GunZ The Duel can see how vastly different GunZ 2 will be and I think Mabi is going that direction too.

I'm inclined to agree that a lot of games(CAUGH:WOW:COUGH) go crazy with the amount of races they have, but it's fun to RP as something other than human, and interesting to see all the diversity among the players as they interact with each other...
I mean adding elves and giants did shorten the (far too long)list of people playing the stereotypical "Dark, loner, Anti-hero Ronin" and Naru-tards that over populated the game... lol
I think 4 or 5 races is usually all a game needs... I mean If I was going to make an MMO(dreaming) I would probably go with
Humans,
Elves,
Dark Elves,
Giants, and
Dwarfs... enough to give the player lots of room to use their imagination, but not overwhelm them...

Rather than races I think specializers are more important (i.e. a party with at least one warrior, mage, archer, tanker/healer, etc,)

I think giants and elves have become too integral to not be implemented sooner or later.

I don't think I'm going to play regardless of the races. It seems they removed all aspects of the game that were appealing to me.

First I'll need to get over my hatred of nexon.
After that, if the game isn't a vindictus clone (I like the vindictus gameplay for combat but I hate how that's ALL the game is, and how linear it is) I'll give it a shot.
If those 2 factors pass, what races are in the game is irrelevant, I started mabi1 as a human because I had no choice. Might be the same for mabi2.

That was one of the things that I liked a lot about Mabi. all other MMOs I've tried make you pick a class during character creation, and that it. no matter what you do with that character he/she will always be that class. I liked that once I finished maxing out my mains Combat skills I was able to teach him magic, and/or pursue other things...
In my opinion. Locking players into a specific Class/type/specialization would be removing one of the elements of Mabinogi that makes it unique to other MMOs...

The game looks quite far form Vindictus, but it's prone to change.
The only reason that it's called "Mabinogi" is because they wanted to keep the same base concepts of the lore the same, but everything else is different.
I really don't care that much about races. As long as I can play an average-sized female character, I'm game.

I like the idea of specialization, but not the way most games implement it. My ideal game would be classless, rewarding specialization but not punishing diversity. I'd also like to see a way to re-spec done properly. Not just cashshoplol but also requiring some work so that people who really specialize are rewarded for sticking to it. It'd kinda suck to spend ages building a really good AoE for instance, getting really good at it, when anyone can just re-spec to be an AoE at will. Not sure how to make a system like that work though.
I absolutely loved the system in one game I played, Dream of Mirror Online. You levelled each class separately, could change between classes in-town, and were able to take 2 active skillsets and one passive skillset from any of your other classes. Most classes had 2 sets of active skillsets-- those that required your class-specific weapon, and those that could be used without. Every class also had a lv30 passive skill that allowed you to use the class-specific weapon in another class by grabbing that passive, albeit at 50% damage (I think it could be upgraded at higher levels to increase the damage %). You could play as a Fencer, for instance, with a Doctor's healing abilities, a Thief's stealth/pull/support skills, and a Merc's ability to wear heavy armour.
It encouraged both diversity and specialization, and allowed you to freely switch classes without making it so that focusing on one class was a bad thing.

I sear if this is a dungeon crawler I'm not even going to bother.
