http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/fifth-grader-reprimanded-bringing-paper-gun-school-181022936.html
Another fake gun has reportedly created problems for a young student.
According to Philadelphia mother Dianna Kelly, who spoke with FOX 29 about the incident, her daughter, Melody Valentin, was given a sheet of paper by her grandfather that was torn and folded to look like a pistol. When another student saw the fake gun, which Melody had thrown in the trash can, he alerted the teacher.
The teacher then went over the top when reprimanding Melody, Kelly told Fox 29, saying that he "should call the cops on her" and that she could "be arrested."
Kelly added, "Why did he threaten my daughter?"
Melody, meanwhile, said that the teacher "yelled at me and said I shouldn't have brought the gun to school and I kept telling him it was a paper gun but he wouldn't listen."
Kelly has been keeping Melody home since the incident last week and says she's looking into enrolling her in another school.
According to Fox 29, school officials have not responded to their requests for comment.
Last week, a kindergartner was suspended after saying she was going to shoot classmates with her pink Hello Kitty bubble gun. And earlier this month, a 6-year-old boy was suspended after making a gun gesture with his hand and saying, "Pow."
I know that everybody's trying to deal with the aftermath and freak-show after the Sandy Hook incident, but this is fucking ridiculous.

Seriously, all the teacher needed to do was, after he was sure the gun was made of paper, explain to her why she shouldn't bring something like that to school, and make sure she understands, and move along with his day.

Lol, it looks nothing like a gun. It's like a piece of paper with 1/4 of it torn off. And the kid tossed it out because she forgot it was in her pocket...

I was more worried about people overreacting about everything in the incident, and after the incident, than I was about the incident itself. I know that people are panicked and trying to tighten up security, but some things are completely uncalled for.
I'd have the teacher reprimanded for that behaviour. He didn't need to do anything other than tell her not to bring something like that to school. Besides, she never tried to shoot anybody with it, and it's a fucking piece of paper that remotely pertains to the general shape that a gun also happens to possess. [S]Next thing, parents are going to ban the capital L because it is the general shape of a gun.[/S]

So let's see...
We've got this girl, that one who got in trouble for having a bubble gun, that one boy who pretended his finger was a gun, and I think there were like two other kids as well who got in trouble?
Why are we wasting time on little kids playing with toys when there are like
real guns
I just...nnnnnnnnnnnnn

Meanwhile... more on guns...
Are you looking into buying an assault weapon for protection after a devastating natural disaster (or the coming Zombie Apocalypse) plunges society into deadly anarchy? You’ve got it all wrong, Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday: Get yourself a shotgun.
Biden, doing a Google+ “hangout†to promote President Barack Obama’s proposals for battling gun violence, had been asked whether a new assault weapons ban might infringe on the Second Amendment rights of those who want one “as a last line of defense†to fend off looters after “some terrible natural disaster.â€
“Guess what? A shotgun will keep you a lot safer, a double-barreled shotgun, than the assault weapon in somebody’s hands [who] doesn’t know how to use it, even one who does know how to use it,†the outspoken vice president, a shotgun owner himself, replied. “It’s harder to use an assault weapon to hit something than it is a shotgun. You want to keep people away in an earthquake? Buy some shotgun shells.â€
With the fate of Obama’s gun violence proposals unclear in the face of stiff opposition from most Republicans and some Democrats, Biden urged supporters of ideas like imposing a new assault weapons ban, limiting ammunition clips to 10 rounds and toughening background checks to pressure their elected representatives. “This town listens when people rise up and speak,†Biden said.
Like Obama before him, the vice president emphasized that he's a firm believer in the Second Amendment—but compared proposed new curbs on assault weapons to keeping fully-equipped F-15 fighter jets off the market.
“You have an individual right to own a weapon both for recreation, for hunting and also for your self-protection,†he said. "But just as you don’t have an individual right to go out and buy an F-15—if you’re a billionaire—with ordnance on it, just like you don’t have the right to buy an M-1 tank, just like you don’t have a right to buy an automatic weapon" you should not be able to get other weapons for which there is "no reasonable societal justification, or constitutional justification."
Biden noted that "it's not about keeping bad guns out of the hands of good people, it's about keeping all guns out of the hands of bad people. There should be rational limits."
One of Biden's questioners asked why, if they're rational, there's the lack of political will to enact them.
Biden paused, then said he would have to watch his words. “Both left and right sometimes take absolutist positions," he said.
The vice president emphasized that the administration was not calling for armed guards in schools, a proposal recently floated by the National Rifle Association. Instead, schools would have the flexibility to hire a uniformed guard, armed or not, if they so desired.
But Biden warned it would be a "terrible mistake" to arm school staff. "The last thing we need to do is be arming schoolteachers and administrators" who may not have firearm training, he said.
I don't quite understand why people need automatic weapons for self-defense...

Im with OP on this but not all 6 yr olds understand the concept of what it means, to a 6 yr old its just fun its nothing harmful in their eyes..even though we know better. A kid should never have to be worried about being a kid .... /endstory

Schools should refrain from teaching children about the capital letter for "L" because it's in the shape of a handgun.

Absolutely ridiculous. After hearing this story, I'll have to agree with Biden. With the way teachers overreact sometimes, you're just going to invite tragedy by giving guns to teachers. Fuck that shit.
Seriously now, what the fuck is wrong with our education system?! It fucking blows ass! If I ever have a child, I'm moving to another country that actually has a decent education system so that my child never has to suffer through the horror that is American Education.

In middle school I drew a picture of a gun on my notebook and my teacher flipped shit, told me to rip it in to pieces, throw it in the trash, and never do it again.

A kid at my middle school had a little clay pistol keychain and he got suspended for 10 days
What's next? Slingshots?
Jesus I used to make those in school in the playground all of the time.
We used to bring squirt guns to school and spray each other.
