  Now, most people, from what I've seen over the years on the internet, would assume that Person A is a) a girl, b) a feminine guy, or c) young. None of those assumptions would be made about Person B.
  
  Keep in mind that the type of emoticons you use also matter. Emoticons such as :), :(, :D, and D: are generally seen as more neutral than the ones that Person A used above.

  Don't let them get to you. Don't take people seriously. Don't get mad over the internet.
  
  I'd say "don't care what anyone thinks of you", but that's only good advice to a certain extent. Sometimes what people say needs to be listened to. For example, if someone calls you an obnoxious brat -- first of all, don't get mad over it, don't start calling them names back, that just makes you as bad as them -- take a look at yourself. Were you really being annoying? Don't be arrogant, everyone has flaws. Find them, fix them. It is, however, entirely possible that the person who called you that was just being an asshole/having a bad day.
  
  I guess what I'm trying to say is, be the best you can be, and if that's not good enough for them and they still treat you poorly, so be it. You don't need them.
