I liked there being three generations of storyline.
1. when you're a kid
2. when you're an adult
3. when you play as your kids
I also talked to my party members for all parts of the game. Like even after talking to one random npc, I would talk to all 3 of my party members.
So you could say I liked the storyline?
DQ IV is definitely more story-driven(plot-wise), and more centered around people banding together to save the world. It does character interaction in a unique way by having you play through each of the party member's individual stories in chapters before you actually set off with the Hero, so it can get tedious since there's 4 stories you have to play through to get to the actual main focal point of the game(They're also chunky, I think I had around 10 hours play time before I got to the real deal).
DQ VI brings in vocations which really brings in total customization of your party. Lots of grind though, and I didn't feel a lot of connections to the characters as I did with V. It definitely feels more care-free than the others though, just exploring the unknown.
Alternatively, Devil Survivor 1 and 2 are really good. I've yet to play Strange Journey, but I plan on finishing Devil Survivor 2 first.
