  Switch out the case to whatever, plenty to choose from. If 600W is overkill, downgrade to save some dough. Motherboard I just picked whatever lel. The i5 fan should suffice, but switch to the EVO suggested by Applejack if you feel you need an CPU fan. Case fans... optional...

  And you can upgrade to an 8350 for this build too, not that complicated. Nothing wrong with AMD other than I don't like how their chipset gets hotter when you OC. Haswell is going to come out rather soon anyways so both of our plans have their pros and cons.

  While it looks odd how it has no GPU if the games you listed were the only ones you were going to play that could actually work out and you can save some money up in the future and purchase a graphics card of your choice. Since the games you listed aren't very GPU intensive if you OC you can get enough performance for the games you listed. He got a little over 5 Ghz with that build but he was rather lucky with his 3570k. Only problem with this build is it doesn't include the Win7 copy with it so you'd have to A. get it by other means or B. dish out more money.

  I did state that there is no OS in that build, and whats wrong with micro-itx? I've seen plenty of great micro-itx builds. Anyways the 8350 is on par with the 3570k. Anyways I am more or less a Intel fan boy. Unless hes going to start running 2560x1440 BF3 it wouldn't matter what he picks. You can say that if he goes with a 3570k he can upgrade to a 3770k in the future but by the time he'll probably want to upgrade Haswell is going to be out and probably 5th generation will come around and Ivy Bridge will be a little old.
  8350 may more or less be better in the future but right now no games actually can leverage all 8 cores.

  nothing aside the fact that ATX motherboards usually run faster and you have to picky with what parts you buy to make sure it fits.

  Also, no reason not to stick to Micro-ATX or ATX in a gaming build.
  I suggest a standard ATX case still.

  Yeah, I've seen that it runs great on Crysis and FarCry 3 I believe, but still most games run better on Intel CPUs.
  Not saying that AMD make bad CPUs or anything, I suggest then in budget builds where the buyer can't/doesn't want to upgrade.

  Actually, most any game 2011-onwards does well on an FX series chip, except for a few lower budget games and Bethesda titles. (Because Bethesda for some reason still is only utilizing 2 cores and utilizes heavily on Intel's Havok engine. Most low budget games have inexperienced programmers which again, only code for one or two cores.) 4 thread + utilization game engines do well with AMD's chips at their price points, though those with older engines or inexperienced coding staff will still favor an i5.

  ATX Mobos don't run faster for the most part unless you go low end vs. low end but what ever. Anyways sure Ivy will be good but Haswell will be the same price and 5th gen will be the same price and you'll get more performance it won't matter. Anyways if you start gaming some people later intend to start making gameplay and 3770k would be nice(r) for constant video editing and streaming more often. Anyways I doubt this person will upgrade very much if he can only get $750 for a build, by the time I'd expect this person to upgrade it would be better to get a whole new rig altogether.

  Will be high quality, quiet, last a good while, and is easily upgradable on your CPU and GPU in the future if you need more power. Or just in 2-4 years to improve it. Steamroller CPUs may still be coming to AM3+ and will be a nice upgrade. (whereas LGA1155 is dead, Haswell will be the only core on LGA1150, and Broadwell / later Intel mainstream CPUs are BGA only)

  I'd prioritise the CPU,GPU and a decent PSU so it doesn't fry. Everything else you can cutback on as long as it works and it's compatiable.

  Which pretty much falls on my build, though I pull back a bit on the CPU in favor of quality across the board. The GPU is more than enough for everything the OP is looking for that he quoted.
