you can allow a highly addictive, life ruining substance like cigarettes and chewing tobacco at 18 but they can't drink
a few years ago they were considering lowering the age limit to purchase cigarettes to 16
BUT LOLNO 21 FOR ALCOHOL
????????????
Edit: I just want to make it clear I am not saying in any way, shape, or form that the drinking age should be decreased. I'm just trying to say that it doesn't make any sense to allow one but not the other.
In my opinion both the smoking and drinking age should be much higher because of kids going off to college, which influences drinking a lot. It's a good way to start alcoholism early on in their lives.

it is, but I would say almost all smokers are addicted to it
occasional drinking is beyond common
I was borderline alcoholic, but now I drink every once in a while
this is just my opinion but I would say alcoholism is much easier to overcome than a smoking addiction
I know more than just a handful of people who were alcoholics but were able to quit but are still struggling to kick the cigs

This is hardly the proper place to discussion this matter.
I'll add that any discussion comparing alcohol and tobacco is irrelevant to this particular discussion.

if it were up to me, I'd make the smoking and drinking limit much higher (like 25+ since I consider 21 wayyyy too early especially with college being like "OMG LET'S GET DRUNK AND PARTY YEAHHHH BINGE DRINKING YEAHHHHH)

I didn't do that in college.. Neither did any of my friends. None of us drink at all actually. Maybe we're just weird for being able to have fun sober. ;-;

Even though college is nothing like what you see on the movies, a lot of college students party and drink. I admire the ones who didn't give in to such crap.

You have to understand, you can do that if you're Hispanic :p
(This is a joke. Hispanic individuals are in no way privileged by any means. Don't drink before 21!)

wait, what? is it somehow legal for hispanics to drink or is it just families let their kids drinks? xD
on another note in Cancun I was able to drink at 16 and I got so drunk that I had the worst hangover I've ever experienced

16-18 year olds can drink at hispanic parties if they have an adult, no one says anything and they don't let them get drunk so its k.
But yeah america is like the only country that waits that long. I can drink all I want when ever I want in DR, though drunk driving is still illegal ofcourse.
