Worth is in the eyes of person using the cylinder or any weapon really. Everyone has their own preference and taking in consideration time for prof if you're not using prof hammers then the gold sink between upgrades and special upgrades. There is also enchanting to consider synergy wave/moist all r5 and chance to destroy the cylinder its all a risk in RNG (enchant prots not included). r5 gets the job done in majority of missions and content imo and still works out well, but if you're a risk taker then by all means do your thing lol

@Tropa have you considered adding ninja skills to the skills synergy with alchemy?
As the benefits from HP, Will and STR stats for criticals, base attack+defense and hp based alchemy skills respetively.
1. Extra utility for alchemist such as cloaking and shadow bind to allow time to escape or hold up monsters from direct hits.
2. Ninja benefits from alchemy with frozenwave radius to freeze monster for sakura abyss
3. The use of shock, raincasting, hydra, etc.
I think they're a good synergy one to another.

It's not worth it, just go for Water/Flame.
