I used to play with mods years ago and I pretty much used the same excuse as everyone else. Font mod, zoom mod, whatever else to -decrease my lag-. I came back to play again last year, modless this time around..well. I still lag a ton, it freezes up when I open up the chatlog, friendlist, character screen.
And..well..I just deal with it now. I can still play the game. Everyone says they use mods to reduce lag, but a lot of people download mods that include cp reader, completed dungeon maps, artifact maps, and all sorts of nifty things that -do- offers some sort of advantage over players that do not mod.
And well...if Nexon/Devcat want to make it so people can't access the game if they mod, then so be it. There's isn't much that we could do about it by arguing here about whether mods are "ethical" are not.
This is an excellent post, especially the bolded part. +rep

Don't even bother - at this point it's somewhat obvious at what Yukari has been trying to do.
It's just the same old argument of modders vs. non-modders, no one is going to be convinced otherwise.
Stop resorting to ad hominems.
Mods offer unfair advantages over other players and it's against the terms of service. You can't justify it.

So in essence, having a better computer is modding.
Really not in the mood for this shit right now.
Don't bother bro, just don't.
I hope they give us a better text font in the future.

I wonder if this fixed the other issue with dolls, as well.

I'm curious as to why they haven't added some form of reading CP in the game itself.
It's such a huge part of the game, and we only know it through the wiki and those calculators.
Imagine how tough it must have been for the first person to figure it out.

It's different and you know it. Directly tampering with the client is one thing. Having a good computer and/or internet is another. Even with a good computer and internet some things are static, like the set effect lag, and Tara.
I am talking about mods that reduce the stress on the client to have better performance and less crashes.
Because i would like to run my elites without crashing.
I would like to commerce without losing my goods. And no. Nexon's eventual solution of pay2keep your goods is a horrible idea.
Hi customers, crashing and losing your goods? Here. you can pay to keep your goods from our shitty client crashing on you!
If they implement some sort of cash shop item that allows you to reenter missions you crash from, i am fucking done.

That would be so nice. Too nice, that's why we can't have it ;_;. I'd also like to be able to zoom out even moreeee. Especially in those tara castle missions.

I totally agree with you about the pay2keepgoods thing. That's not a proper solution. A proper solution would be to fix all of the crashing and lag and everything like that.
But on the other hand, modding in any way, shape or form is against the ToS and offers an advantage that other people don't have, because it's not the same client that Nexon distributes. And I doubt that most people who mod are that responsible either - Most people with mods would use something to give them some kind of other advantage, like CP reading or map editing or animation removal or something like that.
The bottom line is it's wrong and i'm glad that they're taking action.

Nexon NA won't take action, because if they do take action, a large chunk of playerbase will be gone, and if they continue to make actions, i will endlessly harass them until they ban the people who hacked and exploited this game.

This would be a better use of their time.
I'm out of this thread. It's going nowhere fast and the fact remains, it's against the ToS and you can't justify using mods unless you're putting yourself above the law.

Because nexon doesn't uphold their TOS.
Fun fact, IGNs that are named after intellectual properties and celebrities are bannable.
Gibberish names are bannable.
So many things in the ToS is bannable, but alas, no one does.
Data mining in itself is not bannable. If anyone tells me otherwise.

Skimmed through thread so not sure if it's already mentioned but...
That snippet about mods ONLY refers to animation swaps.
KR is actually very accepting and encouraging of mods, even the developers admit to using them. They have stated in interviews that they allow all mods as long as they're not gamebreaking and they don't allow you to multi-client.
Why was animation swap banned then?
There is a certain animation swap mod that makes characters assume positions that make it seem like they are masturbating. Because of how popular this indecent mod became, devcat took action because it is a game that is played by minors and family obviously.
In other words, this has nothing to do with modding really. Just keeping the game PG-13. The more you know.

While I agree there are mods that would cause an unfair advantage I also know that there are many shades of grey (way more than 50). Things like CP reader, zooming out further and stuff like that is harmless. Some of mods have been incorporated into the game. What do you expect players to do when the ToS tosses a blanket rule over all mods but fails to fix the problem at hand?
I crash all the time in this game. From continent warping out of a dungeon, entering shadow missions, just clicking my mouse. I myself choose not to mod but it's very tempting once I waste my last elite pass only to crash when I enter the mission. This has been going on for at least a year.
I see both sides and there are valid points to each. Mabi should fix their issues so the player base doesn't have to mod to make it so the derping doesn't derp any derping more.
Aaaaand whole post I wrote made invalid by Radionoise. Thanks (^_^);'; :P

Rad is a Ninja! Deal with it xDD
No seriously the whole thing is about animation swaps/removals and those only, like rad said KR let's their players mod to a certain degree, it's only really NA that dislikes Mods, yet i see Screens posted on the Nexon forums with IGN etc that you can't look at without seeing any mods, yet the players still aren't banned at all even if a Nexon Employee posted in it too.
The power of Money or just NExon not really caring anyways? we'll never know. Fact is that the mentioned mods here by you all give less to no advantage except the artifact maps, if you even need them anymore now that there are way easier ways to get Exploration exp.
CP reader... it fastens the thing a bit but only like a few seconds.... and Modders aren't using them as egoistically as you depict them, many known modders will respond on the question "what's my cp", and even those use the CP calculator sometimes as this mod tends to bug specially when using -CP gear.
And seriously, any player with a bit playtime doesn't look at the map anymore in a dungeon, i ran into dead ends a lot even when i still had mods. i only really used it when i was in a hurry.... alas Nexon suddenly wanting to make an Unsheduled Maint.

I can't believe people are still trying to justify that mods are a bad thing. Just because one persons computer can handle the lag without mods doesn't mean all of us can. Even when I press L without mods my client will crash, I cant even enter tara to begin with, my computer is worth over 1 grand yet this shitty client still gives me dozens of issues. With mods pretty much all my client side issues are gone. Plus the "harmful" mods mentioned are things such as CP reader and artifact locations on the map... These are such minuscule things that harm nobody, does anyone actually give a fuck if someone can see their CP? And any of the maps in tiara can be found on the wiki, js.
