I'm really liking the hammer, actually. I've only had problems with the sturdy kobold, but that's nothing new t.t

I actually really like hammer too...
I went back to sword for the moment though because The Capricorn is 8 silver, Ainle Longsword was 3.
I'll probably use both...

Hammer is really fun for low level stuff, but I end up using sword because I have rA Amaranth and Smash Mastery, so Hammer damage is pretty crappy relatively.

Hammers use Smash Mastery btw.

I know, but my Amaranth is stronger than any smash hammer has until I go for Stigma or get a Capricorn.

Do hammers do anything special at R9 Guard? I just got it...
Edit: I can confirm: 1 -> Butterfly; 2 -> Stigma Hammer.
__________
I've also decided I really, really like hammers. Stigma Hammer has one clear advantage... It is uninterruptible. This was mentioned before, but you can really use this to your advantage, especially since you can power the skill up.
You get your Stigma going on the boss (or whatever), then if something happens where you know you're going to get hit and be interrupted, just release and it will always hit, even if you get hit. You can't do that with Amaranth. You probably couldn't get out of the attack animations fast enough on either of them to do it, although sword does have the clear advantage when it comes to guarding because of the greater delay that hammers have.
But, I'm really liking the bigger damage and not being interruptable. I'm even getting to a point that I can block with the hammer too. And well... I can't help but feel that the hammer attacks are just superior.
Definitely a group thing though... I think it's played more like a mage than a tank. Sword is probably better for soloing since you can get the perfect guards more easily. Buttt.... I guess I'll eventually find out.

Is the damage between hammers and swords really that big? I haven't noticed this huge damage gap between stigma and amaranth that people are talking about.

Personally, my Amaranth rank isn't all that high, but even with the Ainle (lvl 32) sword unless you hit a vampire mob with a few normal attacks first (or crit), you can't 1HKO them with the smash kick. Using the free hammer you get (lvl 24?), both Butterfly Smash and Stigma 1HKO on the smash portions. Also, a full charge stigma took out 80% of a Polar Bear's health bar (but I'm not even sure it critted).
Those are my experiences, but someone with better sword smash ranks may differ.

Someone told me that hammers didn't get the guard bonus at r9, so I stopped ranking it >.> Guess I'll get started with that again.
Also, what did you mean by 'hammers use smash mastery'?

He means Smash mastery affects hammer smash attacks. Which I see no reason why someone would think otherwise D:

.-. oh I see. I've been ranking it since it seems loads more efficient than ranking any single smash.
Also, is plate armor out yet? I haven't seen anyone wearing it and I've yet to hit 30 myself.

It is. Unless you are going for a r9 bonus in a specific smash

No, there's only a crappy plate helmet.
The first good plate set for Fiona is on 4th boat. Which is the shining set, and looks pretty darn awesome.

So the Capricorn hammer, is that craftable yet? One of the mats is something called a Gnoll Battle Mace, says it drops in the 'prairie entrance.' Is that in the game?

Yeah, it's a pretty big difference. I'd say a Stigma is about 3 amaranth kicks or so...

Hammer is basically godly against bosses where you can counter in almost every attack. For the rest, sword is much better.
Good Fiona Players end up using both weapons, and switch between them depending on what are you fighting.
