Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.
For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.
Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One.
You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.
So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:
An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.
In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.
These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.
We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.
Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.

changes nothing for me honestly. I'm still going for the PS4 - cheaper and didn't try to screw everyone over.

I'd say it's an improvement, but I think they're gonna have to do more than that to get their fanbase back to the number it used to be.

Good Job Microsoft ty for finally admitting that you fucked up. I'm still getting a WiiU and PS4 though, you're stupidity through out the past month has kinda ticked me off to much for me to just turn around and come back to you + you offer no exclusives that I actually want to play.

It doesn't change jack shit.
You KNOW they planned this out. They can't be dumb enough to do everything so wrong without a motive.

still even if that was their motive.. I think it messed things up a lot more than the things they gain from it... So pretty much they still were "dumb enough to do everything so wrong"

Also they kinda defended all the wrong things so vigorously, honestly it kinda annoys me more than anything that they just turned around and just went back on everything they said before.

What damage?
The console hasn't been released yet.
The E3 show isn't for consumers, it's for people in the video game industry. Literally every new game shown there is incomplete.
Nothing is guaranteed to be the final product.
Giantbombcast:
Patrick Klepek: "Developers have plenty of good reasons to be showing games on PC. That's a totally normal thing --"
Jeff Gerstmann: "It's pretty standard --"
Brad Shoemaker: "It's totally standard."
Patrack Klepeck: "It's been really werd to watch the internet --"
Brad Shoemaker: "Anybody who is freaking out about games running on PCs at this E3, like, has no idea what --"
Jeff Gerstmann: "Plenty of PS4 games running on PC --"
Brad Shoemaker: "Yeah, all of the demos for PS4 I saw were running on PC."
Patrick Klepeck: "It's the developer's choice, y'know, in terms of where they're at and things like that."
It's fine to turn around.
Sony did the same thing, they kept piling on the bad stuff about the PS4 and then made an announcement to turn around.

The damage was that Microsoft announced that it was fine with screwing over its customer base in order to get more control over distribution and sales. Yes, E3 is for people in the video game industry - but that doesn't mean gamers can't get info from it. And the info that most of their fans got was, "We are going to pander to publishers instead of you." On top of that, Microsoft was extremely vehement on making the point that no, DRM couldn't be removed from the xbone, that this was normal and this was how things were going to be - and if you didn't like it, fuck you, buy a 360.

If it wasn't their intention in the first place, then at least the 95%/5% ps4/xbone amazon poll was probably enough of a wake up call to them. Or the preorder numbers. Or just about everything else.
I swear though, they'll use this bullshit on us soon. They'll say "we listened to our customers!" and try to play it off like they're the good guys.

I know
because the amount of angry people on the Internet absolutely reflects how things go
in comparison to actually what's going to happen.
/Sarcasm.
Like EA being voted the worst company and still having best selling games.
Angry words don't do anything.
Angry internet people will be like "Hey yeah, Microsoft changed. Buying xbox to play video games with my friends now"
In real life, majority of people who buy video games and consoles don't care unless if the final product is bad.
They're only getting the final product, not the beta xbox or the beta ps4.

Wait...
so why do you think that MS decided to completely remove the DRM and used games limitations that were originally announced (and defended) at E3?
