*Gear
Gear can make or break your character. Having good gear makes a huge difference. These enchants are something I currently have and is possible to obtain for the average player(I barely spend any nx, maybe like 50 dollars over the past 15 months)

* am researching the best forges i'll get back to this later
* best set is thames armor set [this is end game thou] 1.15* Smash and 1.15* AS

Body
Helmet
Oblivion/Dexterity
[20max, 8hp, 3crit, 10dex]

Armor
Sight/Avenger
[22max, 10balance, 20str[when pot poisoned,30max)]

Glove
Expansive/Elegant[Camel[+9max, roll) instead of Elegant, depend on whether u need the balance and crit or not).
[10max, 10crit, 10balance, 10Will]

Boot
Fleet/Viscount[More expensive to get, go oblivion instead of Fleet]
[16max, 2crit, 1atkspd]

Shield
Oblivion/Alteration(or count, or whatever u want)
[10max, 25str]

Lyre

Champion Knuckles
Speedy/Heavy Punch
Special Upgrade:
S4+ [ I prefer S for the consistency you can go R for more crit damage if you like]
Reforge:
Elemental damage(Fire,Ice,Lightning) 4+

Guard Cylinder
Oblivion/Alteration(or count, or whatever u want)
[10max, 25str]

Accessories
I will update this when armor update comes out. than we can use 2x accessories with heavy armor.

Titles
The useful titles for this build are

1. Shock master (15max)
2. Hamlet(15max + 10hp) - unless u were lucky enough to get DK Ruairi or Nao suffix

EGO selection
The simple truth is that there are no good egos for giants. Egos are rendered useless by special upgraded weapons.

Ect Category[aka Doll bags]
This is unnecessary but incredibly useful addition. I spent 7mil to obtain both a succubus and incubus bags. Not only does it give you 49 + 25 = 74 inv space but.
+5 Strength
+5 Dexterity
+5 Intelligence
+5 Will
+5 Luck
+10 Max Damage
+5% Critical
+5 Defense
+3% Protection

*Combat Tips

Combos

Single target death combo:
Charging strike or focused fist -> a tier 2 -> a drop kick -> follow up with a lance charge -> smash -> assault slash into either a wm/lance counter. Repeat.

AOE tanking combo:
Activate shock on your self -> turn on mana shield -> windguard -> wm spam (you'll live through almost anything)

An explanation of why rain casting is an over powered skill
heres the wiki: http://wiki.mabinogiworld.com/view/Rain_Casting

and this is the op part: Enemies underneath the cloud will not aggro unless attacked.

imagine those horrific ghasts and now they don't even attack you!
imagine Martial arts, its the final and you rain cast. Guess what? You and your friends can just beat on one target at a time making this an easy mode mission

Battlefield Overture[The skill you will fall in love with]
For some reason BO, is still a very underrated skill in Mabi. Not many people have it. It has the potential to boost your damage by 25-35%[more multiplier] This means the more max you have the more max your going to get with BO. This skill is probably the most efficient ap to max damage ratio in the game. Just gotta remember to use it. Have a lyre in your inventory and be prepared to click switch your knucks and lyre.

*Some Math

How to Maximize your Lance Smash
Giants at default get a 600% smash damage and a multiplier of 1.2 with two-handed weapons. The smash reforge adds to the base value of 600 so we get.

The smash reforge is added to the BASE value. Aka, the 600%. Then lances do NOT get a 20% smash damage boost. That's actually the two-handed weapon boost. And it's not added it's multiplied. The true equation is:

[(600+200) * 1.2] * 1.15 = 1104% (yup, boom.)

Red is the base smash multiplier. Blue is the bonus from reforge. Green is the two-handed weapon boost. And Orange is the Thames set boost.

*Thank you Daihau, I respect you for using cold hard math to fix my formula. I would like more feedback like this.

might need this one too.

Guide is under construction.
• Kyubey wrote on 2013-08-14 18:22
your gear list is pretty much average, there are better and easier enchants that you can get

>lances
either you do secret penetrating or don't bother with it, putting untamed/croc is a absolute waste of time and you'll most likely do more dmg (on high def prot) with a secret penetrating than with a untamed croc
>shield
count is for wannabe melee elves, alteration is for giants/humans.
>knuckles
speedy croc, heavy punch sucks and it's bridge for crocodile so might as well push through and get the best
>boots
why fleet? oblivion all the way for prefix, either that or solo. Can also do camo for suffix
>armor
basic friend > vision avenger
>gloves
again, solo/marquis/SN, for sufix theres always camo if you don't want to enchant difficult (r4 es)
• Kouhai wrote on 2013-08-14 18:42
am not even done yet with my guide don't start bashing me yet lol. :T_T:

This guide isn't about being the absolute maxxed out. It focuses on being practical with your gear as an average player.

Am sorry but I won't Risk a crocodile for 3 more max damage. Also its reforged and S5 am not risking that shit. 20+20wil = 26.66667

Most of my gear can easily be found through gacha(so its cheap gold wise) and its easy to enchant upon.

Also why basic/friend? that shit is only good with master of combat title.
Lets do some math.

[5str, 2 melee max + 15max + 10str,4 melee max(master combat) + 35str(friend)14] = 35
vs
Sight 10max + avenger12max + 15max(shock master) = 37max, and max is a universal stat

[20wil, 6.6667 knuck max + 15 + nothing from master of combat title + nothing from friend] = 26.6667
vs
Sight 10max + shock 15max + avenger 12max = 37max

please use basic math before commenting =X...

Don't forget that future updates dex will only cap your balance to 50%. so 10bal is useful

And friend is an absolutely bad idea. Max damage is a universal stat while friend only gives you str. Bad idea.

And those glove es you mentioned are nearly impossible unless your a nx whore. I also mentioned am going camo.

My gear cost around 30mil, yours is like 80mil+ for all the burns and fails u will be doing.

again i didn't even get to explain

untamed/croc lion claw is for hm or lower ( there was a untamed/spike gacha - untamed/croc is easy mode)

secret/penetrate kngiht is for things harder than hm

Also at Fleet comment(i said i was going for oblivion)

These enchants are something I currently have and is possible to obtain for the average player(I barely spend any nx, maybe like 50 dollars over the past 15 months)

im not bashing, im adding info. After all it's a guide
This guide isn't about being the absolute maxxed out. It focuses on being practical with your gear as an average player.
Average players can get most of the enchants i've mention (with the exception of like friend and SN considering their drops)
Am sorry but I won't Risk a crocodile for 3 more max damage. Also its reforged and S5 am not risking that shit. 20+20wil = 26.66667
Heavy punch has a roll, the chances of getting both will and max maxed are quite slim, as so croc is a more reliable enchant
Most of my gear can easily be found through gacha(so its cheap gold wise) and its easy to enchant upon.
yes and? Doesn't mean you don't develop said gear
Also why basic? that shit is only good with master of combat title. And friend is an absolutely bad idea. Max damage is a universal stat while friend only gives you str. Bad idea.
pretty sure im reading on title that this is a giant guide correct?...
And those glove es you mentioned are nearly impossible unless your a nx whore.
now that's just offensive, i have most of those i've mentioned and mostly were enchanted without nx
My gear cost around 30mil, yours is like 80mil+ for all the burns and fails u will be doing.
rofl 80mil+, again most enchants can be obtained through FBs for free, just requires patience. the most gold i ever spent on gears were on weapons, i usually don't spend much per piece of equipment, even on the pieces that i did i never spent more than 1m per piece
again i didn't even get to explain
untamed/croc lion claw is for hm or lower
secret/penetrate kngiht is for things harder than hm
why make 2 lances when 1 does the job? why not mention r1 HLC for low def mobs? why spend a bazillion upgrade stones for 2 different difficulties when you reach hm you wont be running adv and lower anymore. i don't get it
Also at Fleet comment(i said i was going for oblivion)
Yes my bad

seriously, i decided to add some info to your guide to enrich it, if you're going to act so defensive about it then wtv

Long range combat style: Gunner? I do just fine at 600 str/int in Elite ^^
(I have such low str for a giant my level :'> )

Oh and Viscount gets +2 Attack Speed, very useful with Automatic enchant on guns ^^
• Kouhai wrote on 2013-08-15 02:38
Thats very true had not thought of that.

Guns will be my end game skill set my int is no where up to par.

more updates tomorrow. I hope this guide will help Fellow giants or maybe entice people to become one. Giants are a rare breed.

@basicfriend Yes, this is a giant guide, but its more of a lance + shield + fighter giant guide.
And strength doesn't help fighter. Will does. Therefore max damage would be more beneficial.
Also, he also did the math to show sight avenger is better, if not equal.

but i agree on the second lance thing, a second enchanted and upgraded lance is not needed. Just do normal upgrades on the lance and leave it alone. You don't need to maximize damage on something you can breeze through. It would be a waste of money and time.
And you could honestly probably use your upgraded lance for everything that isn't hard, but isn't easy.
On that note, if you tell them to make a second lance, you might as well tell them to make a second set of knuckles, as the knuckles will lose dura faster anyway.
• Kouhai wrote on 2013-08-15 18:35
Way ahead of you I already have 2 spare upgraded knucks. and I already made that lion claw lance. I should denote that it isn't needed. But, nice to have.

Thank you for your input.
• Daihau wrote on 2013-08-16 00:47
Giants at default get a 720% smash damage with two-handed weapons. When using lances you can add +20%. With smash reforge(20) add +200%. Than finally the last thing you do is to cap that off with a Thames set for a nice overall 1.15* boost.

To put that all together (720 + 20 + 200) * 1.15 = 1081% (yup, boom.)

There's so much I would like to say to this guide. But this is just the thing that irks me the most...First of all. The smash reforge is added to the BASE value. Aka, the 600%. Then lances do NOT get a 20% smash damage boost. That's actually the two-handed weapon boost. And it's not added it's multiplied. The true equation is:

[(600+200) * 1.2] * 1.15 = 1104%

Red is the base smash multiplier. Blue is the bonus from reforge. Green is the two-handed weapon boost. And Orange is the Thames set boost.

As of now the only real selection for giants is a broad axe or some 2h blunt weapon ego for full swing. Dual wielding ego iron mace is a thing of the past.

Please. Just no. Do not use an Ego for full swing. Just. Okay.

Time to bring Maths into this again. Broad Axe ego tops at 240 max, at all stats 50. Let's say you have 800 str, which is pretty easy for a giant 2k+ to get in trans. And around 60ish max from gear. Which is lowish, but still. 240 + 60 + (800 / 2.5) + 18 = 638 max in trans. Add in a base value overture of 25%, which is easily obtainable. And we get 797 Max.
GFS's multiplier is 970% at a max 4th swing. Plus base crit value with r1 of 250%

(797 * 9.7) * 2.5 = 19327 damage full swings.

Now with a Titanic Crocodile r5/6 Broad axe. Which is fairly easy to get. We'll do uncrafted Values. So the axe itself has 121 max. Titanic is 55 str, or 22 max. And Crocodile is 37 max. So that totals out to 180 max damage. 60 from the max level broad axe ego. So using the same previous stats, 800 str, 60 max from gear. We get 180 + 60 + (800 / 2.5) + 18. We get 578 max. Base overture of 25%, brings it to 722 max. I'll calculate both r5 and r6, some aren't willing to try r6, but it's still a possibility.

R5:(722 * 9.7) * 3 = 21010 damage full swings.
R6:(722 * 9.7) * 3.12 = 21850 damage full swings.

The kicker is. The r5/r6 broad axe. Is MUCH easier to make than a max level ego. And still outdamages it. That's being fairly modest with enchants and stats. Conqueror Crocodile Broad axe r6 is the true endgame Fullswing weapon.

Why Red ups? Because if you click the ground with full swing, and you should, it ignores protection to calculate critical hit.

Egos are rendered useless by special upgraded weapons.
