LAGBUSTING 101

  Okay guys. So as many of you may or may not know due to my frequent complaining about it, I lag to high hell and back. I've already denagled and done MTU tweaks and stuff and my lag is still atrocious. 300 ping from the test, more in effect, and .3 mbps download speed on my latest one to cali. I bounce around sen mag like i'm playing mabi pinball.
  
  So i'm looking for more advanced ways to try and reduce lag, because as fun as Mabi is, I simply can't play if i'm bouncing around the screen.
  
  I've been told to try WTFast. However, as seen here, it doesn't seem to do much. And in addition here, their privacy policy is quite...suspect.
  
  Thoughts?
  
  Is there anything else that you can do that's more advanced, even if it requires a subscription fee or something like that? I'm not interested in mods at all and will have no discussion of it, and i'm already on the best internet service in my area. :Q

  A lot of people have recommended WTFast to you, if you're still hesitant on even trying THAT out then I don't think there's much we can do for you, because it doesn't get much safer than a VPN that has been around for years.

  It's unfortunate that you're having these latency issues, but to be completely honest, I don't believe there is much you can do about it outside of moving somewhere else or possibly changing your ISP. One of our guildmates lives in Australia and gets your usual distance lag, but not as bad as yours. If you're in a very rural area that may have something to do with it. I don't think there are any "tricks" or "quick fixes" that will solve the issue. Your best bet would probably be using a VPN as previously mentioned, but if that's not something you're wanting to do or if it yields no significant results then this is something you'll probably have to deal with.

  Thanks. I do live in a rural area so that's a factor. I have been dealing with it generally, but if your lag was really bad, wouldn't you try to reduce it regardless? :p

  How'd you even play mabi in the first place with the lag?
  If it was me, i'd probably try a VPN like wtfast, privacy issues mean nothing to me, what are they going to do to me -_-

  Not very well. Bandits have always been a challenge for me, only recently have I been able to take on vets and stuff due to massive kill potential with puppets + overture. Still can't do masters. I struggle in hardmode missions and above, where I mainly just wear mana shield gloves and spam the MP hotkey to live when things get rough.
  
  The situation's become much worse as of late. Mabi seems to be lagging more, my ISP is being a bitch to deal with and skillsets that i'm branching into are highly latency dependant. That's why i'm looking into alternative ways of dealing with things now.
  
  As for privacy...
  
  Basically anything you do online. Online banking, Online Tuition, even your IGN and password and stuff. I don't know about you, but that's kind of a big deal to me.

  It's as good as it's going to get for now.
  
  I live about half an hour out of the nearest town in a fairly rural area on the "border" of outback and coastal Australia, so the lines that we're getting out here arn't a priority compared to, say, the coast. I'm on the highest speed plan that my isp gives in my area, and i'm about as far away from the exchange as you can get. (Border between two). Satellite/4G isn't much, if at all faster, and it costs a LOT more. There's been a petition in place for over 6 years to get new lines and/or a closer exchange put in, but there's been no word on it.
  
  Likely, any infrastructure that's put in will be done after the federal election in a few months time depending on who wins. And then knowing Telstra/NBNco, it's going to take 2 years to do anything, and they've said the fastest that we can get any better options to our area is 18 months assuming all goes to plan.

  tl;dr The next best option will cost several hundred dollars more and may not even be faster. 10 dollars a month is not a big deal compared to that if it does improve my speed.

  If I were you, I'd first take the risk of using WTFast to see if it works with Mabinogi, then uninstall it immediately after all the latency testing (e.g. weapon switching speed, one dungeon run/shadow mission, commerce run test, etc). They aren't going to get much out of one session. If privacy is a real big concern to you and money isn't an issue, this is what you can do after you know that it works: Buy a proper gaming computer/laptop that you will use only for gaming purposes only, while you do your online banking and other personal private information on the other computer. Then use WTFast to connect on the gaming purpose only computer/laptop.
  
  Still, I see the real bottleneck to be your connection speed as well. Nothing that you can really do since this is out of your control.

  I believe you might want to remove MTU tweaks. From what I understand, MTU tweaks are high reliant on the quality of your connection, and if you change your mtu when you are lagging badly, you might be making it worse.
  
  But yeah, you really should try WTFast.
  Or, if you want another VPN, I've been using private tunnel for a while when I'm at school. $12 for 50 gigs. Just turn it on when you play mabi, it will last you months.

  That's what i'm thinking of doing; When my paypal account gets set up i'm going to give it a try. I don't have enough money right now to buy another laptop, but that's certainly something I could consider doing.

  I've tried playing with and without mtu tweaks and it's set to whatever helps the most at the moment. I don't remember what that is, it could be without.

  Satellite latency would be over 500ms, don't do that. I can only suggest to trace mabi TW, KR or JP
