The story begins when 30,000 Japanese gamers and several other hundred thousand around the world are trapped in the fantasy online game world Elder Tale. What was once a sword-and-sorcery world is now the real world. The main lead Shiroe attempts to survive with his old friend Naotsugu and the beautiful assassin Akatsuki.
So first of all, this feels nothing like Sword Art Online. I don't know how to explain it but, it isnt full of plot holes I guess. The anime actually explains whats going on very well. But it doesn't feel all over the top and dramatic "Death is the end" like SAO did.
The main character isnt some loner solo player either.
I don't know what I think about this one, I like it so far.
The UI in this game is confusing as hell though.
Pretty cool opening too.

I have to agree with the SAO part, doesn't feel anything like it aside from the being trapped in a game part.

The first episode was pretty good. I get the feeling we're gonna see some pretty interesting things from this show. Already it feels really laid back. I really like Tank bro and Akatsuki. The mc is feels kind of reserved compared to them, but that's great given he's the strategist. I get the feeling it's gonna have just the right amount of serious and funny moments in the show. I hope they portray social interaction in an mmo properly, seeing as there's not gonna be drama from "hurr death is the end". They're certainly setting up something with mc's past with that "guild"/
I feel bad for anyone who compares this to SAO, just because there's a similar concept like being stuck in a game doesn't make this a "SAO ripoff". Anyone who says shit like that would then be calling SAO a .hack// ripoff by that logic.

I see the main differences between this and SAO now after the second episode. It's not a VR game, they literally got transferred into the game and the game is modeled after the real world with added fantasy elements, so they have servers for each country, or most big countries im guessing. This one feels more like a traditional mmo too. And lastly..

Welp.
I'm loving it so far though, Akatsuki just became my favorite character too :v
I really like anime where they have the ridiculously smart lead character though, like code geass, death note etc have that.
The lead Shiroe is the same

Yeah, it's a bit different from SAO's situation. There, they were playing a VR game.
In this case, the story is: Elder Tale was a regular MMORPG, and just had an expansion added. After updating their client and logging in, the players suddenly found themselves in the game world.
Well, at least we don't have to deal with as much drama about people getting PK'ed and getting slaughtered by bosses?
(Did anyone else notice the reference to Mabi's moongate system with their 'fairy rings'?

Yes. Truly, she is the cutest character this season.
Cat guy seems really cool too. I wonder what's up with him, he's very mysterious so far. Aside from the fact that in the ED we know he's a chef.

Just found this to watch to replace some of the animation/anime series that have gone stale or ended this season...
I felt this Log Horizon really captured the essence of the problems in many MMOs. That was something SAO failed to do. So this anime is on my to-watch list this season.
I felt that the opening song doesn't fit the animation sequences though.

Negotiations make this episode go by slowly, but it was still entertaining to watch. I was just hoping for more, but that's for next week.

After watching last night's episode, I think I'll just wait until the series is completed so I can just binge on it instead of crazily wanting more. Kind of starting to understand Welcome to the NHK now lol

It is for a system like Elder Tale or whatever it is.
New enemies lurking in the shadows! I wonder what's next.

If any of you are interested, 4chan's /a/ board is doing a fan translation of Log Horizon's light novel.
You can find it
here or on the app if you have a smartphone running Android. Currently up to novel 5, which is about 10 or so episodes ahead of the series if it keeps on going at the pace it's moving right now.

They sure started that project up fast, I was looking for such a thing back when this season started.
