Ok i've got two sets of armor. 1 Lorica Segmentica. 1 Claus Knight. Both of them have 100 prof (yeah I know. I've waited too long to upgrade :P ). So now I've decided to do it. So with so many upgrade options my question is this. What is better to have high: defence or protection?

I am not sure but I usually upgrade defense more.

Do you want less crits on you or less damage?

Defense reduces damage received by the specified amount.
Certain skills ignore the defense stat, but not protection.
Protection reduces damage received by that %. It also reduces wounds and Criticals received.
Defense is calculated before Protection.
It's preference though really.

I'd have to say less damage since most mobs normally don't have a high crit rate

Yeah but Protection reduces damage by a percentage. It's good to have both.

For high-damage dealing mobs, it's good to have high Protection.
For low-damage dealing mobs, it's good to have high Defense.

Another point to have more prot is that prot is harder to get compared to defense. Seeing as how Defense(skill) increases your base Defense(stat).

Try for more Protection, but at the same time try and get a little defense in there?

Oi lol. Too many options XD but if prot Is good for high dealing couldn't it also be good for low?
I believe Finnea has a VERY good point

50 damage is reduced to 45 with 10% protection.
With 10 Def, it's reduced to 40.
So, nah. Defense is better for taking low damage.
Also, please don't double post.

Here's an example. You have 0 def and 50% prot
If the mob hits you for 100 you take 50 damage
If the mob hits you for 10 you take 5 damage
However with 10 defense
If the mob hits you for 100 you take 90 damage
If the mob hits you for 10 you take 1 damage

It won't really matter much if you are missing 2 defense or 2 protection.
