Forcing us to make a google+ account just to comment is just plain dumb. This video pretty much explains how I feel.

It's not youtube who did it. Google did it as Google bought Youtube a while back.

Yes I forgot YouTube is owned by google. But I still don't like the fact that they're forcing google+ on you just so you can comment.

It's disgusting really. They're getting desperate to get people to use google+, so they are using youtube as a platform to force people into using it cause they know how popular youtube is. Frankly with all the complaining people do, is anyone even going to leave youtube? Is there a better video sharing site easily accessible?
As long as google knows that they have no competition, they'll keep doing stuff like this. I decided to bite in going with Google+ and use it as an opportunity to try and gain more followers to my videos. If you can't beat em, join them I say.

It makes sense. There's a lot of websites that force you to log in to facebook to comment to reduce spam.
There's even some games that make you sign into facebook.
Google is just doing the same.

I figure it's not that big of a deal since anybody who takes comments on Youtube seriously is an idiot. Comments are just a cesspool of ignorance, trolling and children. At least now there is a chance it'll get better.

Didn't even notice since I already have g+. I agree it's pretty crappy of them to do, but in the long run this was expected to happen since day 1. I don't know if anyone else has noticed but all google services are being integrated together with g+ as the core.
For people who are used to it being a certain way it kinda sucks but at the end of the day it's just so much more simple than having multiple interfaces and multiple portals for different google services. Now if your argument is "but I don't want google to have all my data" then you simply shouldn't have been on youtube at all for the past half decade.

It's supposed to stop the shitty anonymous comments, but this isn't a good way to do it. I fucking hate it.

Feels evil, but I'll probably enjoy the results.

Yes monopoly is very distortionary when it comes to market efficiency.

What happens if we don't have a google acc? Does it just make one for us? lol...
I thought this thread was going to refer to the comment changes.
I figured your YouTube account forces you to make one. I'm not so sure now that I think about it.

People are being nubs and overreacting!
What YouTube actually did was convert, or link, your old YouTube accounts into Google+ accounts.
People have also been able to log into YouTube with their regular Google accounts for many years now. People who have Google accounts also happen to have Google+.
What annoyed me more was that YouTube kept asking me if I wanted to link my YouTube account to my personal Google+ account, which has my real name and stuff. It would have meant that my channel would be renamed, I'd be using my real name on YouTube as well, and I didn't feel like doing that so I declined. But it would just keep asking me over and over, probably hoping I would eventually miss-click and link the accounts. Thankfully it stopped when they implemented a Google+ account on my YouTube account instead of linking to my existing one that I wanted to keep separate.

I can't work the new comment, can't trace replies anymore, when I click the reply to xxx link a new tab pop up with the exact same comment section so I still don't see the original comments...
Also the time link doesn't work anymore, click it and it pops a new tab with the video still starts from 0:00...

I don't know if it's because I'm on google apps for business as my google account, but when the "you need to link your youtube to g+" pop-ups came around one of my choices was to link it to a google+ Page (which looks just like an account but isn't). So I now have my google account which has my google+ profile, then I have an "Osayidan" google+ page which has my youtube linked to it, and from within youtube I can switch between the two and they each have their own uploads/favorites and whatnot.
Another thing I really like about the new comments system, even though I very rarely comment (or even read comments) is you can now decide who sees your comments based on your google+ circles (groups basically). So +1 for privacy.
