I've been watching a bunch of random anime lately, you know, trying to expand my horizons beyond the same few shows that everyone has seen on CN/Toonami or whatever the new popular thing on the internet is(ie SAO).
Anyway, the point of this is I apparently suck at picking what to watch because everything I watch is DEPRESSING AS FUCK.
What is the most depressing anime you've ever seen?
I can't remember which is the most depressing, but the most recent depressing anime was probably Zegapain
Basically a bunch of weird stuff starts happening to this guy in highschool, and he eventually learns that the world is kinda like the matrix. The entire world has been destroyed and the world they are living in is a computer simulation, meanwhile those who have awaken fight the robots to stop them from destroying the computers and wiping out humanity. The part where it's different from the matrix is that even in the real world they aren't alive, they are still just data projected with holographic technology. There are no longer any flesh and blood humans.
On top of that, because all they are is data, over time errors occur in the data, and when you get enough errors you are deleted, so even though they are data they can still die. Also, you find out that the main character had his memory wiped, so his old girlfriend has to watch him loving someone else because reminding him of the old memories would cause him to go insane or something.
Plus humans apparently take up so much data that the computers cant make time go on forever, so every 5 months the entire server is reset and everyone;s memories are wiped except the aware people, who have to live the same 5 months for eternity.
And then you find out that this all happened on purpose. This guy invented these super computers with the idea of digitizing humanity so we could live forever and superspeed evolution so we could become superhuman. Then he unleashed a virus that would wipe out humanity, forcing everyone to become data if they didn't want to die.
Also the main character's new girlfriend had an error during transfering between their ship and their fighting robot, so now her body can be present in the fake world, but her mind and emotions and stuff are all stuck in the robot, so she's only really alive when she's fighting.
Also also another guy's wife died the same way. She had a memory error so she literally died in his arms just repeating the same conversation until her data was deleted because she had no memory. It was like, "What should we name the dog?" "That's a lovely name..But.." "What should we name the dog?"
Also also also when the main character lost his memories he got stuck back in the server to recover, and when he starts to wake up again he keeps getting all these messages to stop and not trust the people. And then you find out that the messages were from himself in the past, hoping that he wouldn't reawaken saying that he had already lived through those 5 months over 150 times and couldn't take it any more.
Imagine that. Living the same 5 months of highschool on repeat for 60 years.
Then in the final battle the steal the technology to become human, but to transfer the data one of them has to become human, so now he has to spend 20-30 years all alone getting older while the device is built on earth(they couldn't transport it, it was too big) to make all his friends human, and they'll be coming out as teenagers so he'll be a super pedo when he's 40 with his 16 year old girlfriend.
So it was a good series, but it was really depressing. What have you watched that was super depressing? :imdead:
