I like more serious tone ones. A little fan service is ok, but not overboard. None at all is also cool.
I'm ok with gore as well. I'm the type of person that takes things that happen in the story with me and get all depressed about it
when Mami got her decapitated (was not expecting that when I first watched it) or a lot of shinsekai yori....
List of the more popular ones I've watched:
Darker than Black
Zetsuen no Tempest
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
Shin Sekai Yori
Most of this season's anime
Nichijou
Eureka Seven
Bakemonogatari Series
Code Geass
Katanagatari
Fate/Zero
ily u all

Hmm OP wants a serious anime with little fan service but not too much. The perfect anime for that is Fairy tail:D

Samurai Flamenco, it's wacky/odd at the beginning but whatever happened in the latest episode (number 7) was shocking.
If you understand the Tokusatsu culture, even better. Basically it is Tokusatsu in anime form.

It's already been spoiled. Besides I don't really wanna invest time in an anime that doesn't get interesting until the last episode, you feel me?

Yes still on-going, maybe you can put that on your to-watch list with Log Horizon when they end. I feel these two are pretty good for current anime.
How about Wagaya no Oinari-sama (our home's fox deity)? I'm not certain if you have watched this before, but every episode was pretty interesting (only Sakura would be annoying). Only thing is, don't expect a proper ending here because the Light Novels are still on-going. I hope there will be a second season for this.

I like a lot of the current ongoing animes this season, but I'm having a hard time keeping up with them. Very annoying downloading it episode by episode, when I'm used to just downloading every episode. I got to episode 6 or 7 of Log Horizon. Kyou no Kanata or whateevr was really cool at first but started dissappointing me very quickly. Especially after that "Idol" episode.

What's it like? Like I said I much prefer darker/gorier animes. While I do enjoy comedy once in awhile, it's not really preferred.
